It's astounding that Trump is in the presidential race and that half the voting public wants him president again. It's a testament to the change in psyche of the American public from decades past when the public would have been outraged by a presidential candidate like Trump.
It could be thought that Trump might have changed his mind a little after the assassination attempt on him that he didn't label as 'fun' like he did the incident of the man attacking the media at his rally (which was in PA again where he was nearly assassinated). It shows that nothing can be expected to change with Trump. His vitriol seems to be worsening. Yet Elon Musk says Trump will be different in a second term because supposedly he will by concerned about his legacy.
That type of remark has been heard before by politicians like Sen. Susan Collins. 'Trump has learned his lesson'.

When Trump started his presidency, his followers said it would take some time for him to grow into the job and stop acting like a child. Rumsfeld said people should cut him some slack because he was just a beginner.
Rumsfeld was very old school. He was in the Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and G.W. Bush administrations. Being of conventional political background, Rumsfeld should have been the most suspicious and skeptical of someone like Trump. Rumsfeld died in June 2021. He was able to see Trump's insurrection at the Capitol. Rumsfeld warned Trump to not involve the military in the 2020 election that Trump claimed was stolen from him.
Paraphrases. Cut him some slack, He's a beginner. (Rumsfeld, May 2021) He's learned his lesson from his first impeachment (Collins, Feb 2019; Collins voted to acquit Trump.) He'll be too embarrassed to run for president again because he's afraid of losing (Mary Trump, Nov 2022) He'll be different in a second term because he's concerned about his legacy (Elon Musk, Aug 2024)

Trump didn't seem to speak with puckered lips back in the 1980's, at least not to the extent he does now.

Trump doesn't seem to have said publicly if he will bring Haley on the campaign trail with him. She likely would have been a better VP on the ticket than Vance who is little Trump Jr. Trump apparently didn't like the idea of having a women or Black on the ticket. During the primary season Trump said Haley was not on the list for VP.
Meandering? Off-Script? Trump Insists His ‘Weave’ Is Oratorical Genius. excerpt: “You know, I do the weave,” he said. “You know what the weave is? I’ll talk about like nine different things, and they all come back brilliantly together, and it’s like, friends of mine that are, like, English professors, they say, ‘It’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen.’”
Opinion | The GOP’s attacks on Kamala Harris send an unmistakable message about how they see women excerpt: "And all of this tracks if you look at most Republican policies being proposed right now. What doesn’t track is the claim by anyone in the party that they’re being less than serious about remarks about women or the roles they should play. Trump, for example, has recently disavowed policies that restrict abortion access, continues to flip-flop on the issue and has tried to vaguely claim his party would be “great for women and their reproductive rights.” He has attempted to distance himself from Project 2025, despite reports linking him and the platform in undeniable ways. The project is a receptacle of many of the GOP policy fantasies, including regulating IVF, using the Comstock Act to regulate the mailing of abortion pills and abolishing no-fault divorce."
Trump says Harris was nasty to Pence at the 2020 VP debate. All Trump did was try to have Pence killed during the Jan. 6 insurrection that he incited. Trump Roasted After His Most Head-Spinning Attack On Kamala Harris Yet excerpt: Trump threw a fit the next morning, calling Harris a “monster,” “horrible,” and “totally unlikeable,” and he mentioned it again on Fox News on Sunday as he called her “vicious.” “She said you’re interrupting me! I wanna talk!” Trump said.
Trump is arguably horrible, unlikable, vicious, and a monster (although those are considered virtues by Trump's followers when it's about him and liabilities when it's about other people they don't like).
