Democrats pick apart Trump victory: ‘How do you spend $1bn and not win?’

    excerpt:

The Democratic pollster Paul Maslin argued that Harris did as well as she could have, given the environment and circumstance. Harris “did a really good job”, Maslin told Politico, but ultimately “this race was unwinnable”.

“Trump, rightly or wrongly, his persona and his fundamental attack line against the condition of the country, the Biden-Harris administration and frankly the Democratic party, was in the end unbeatable,” he said.

CNN’s national political correspondent Alex Thompson noted that a former adviser to Joe Biden criticized the Harris campaign, asking: “How do you spend $1bn and not win?”

    https://www.npr.org/2023/09/18/1199318220/nonpartisan-open-primaries-explainer

    excerpt:

Gruber says states with closed primaries also have more polarization.

"You are starting to see states that shut out independent voters have primary elections that are more and more insular and are producing candidates that are less and less representative because fewer and fewer people are able to participate in them," he says. "And that's throwing the whole system of democracy in elections out of whack."

AEI's Kosar says polarization isn't unique to closed primary states, though. Voters have self-sorted themselves and are polarized on their own, but he puts some blame on partisan primaries.

"After 100 years of experimentation with this, we see that there are clear problems with this system — not least of which is that it produces candidates who frequently aren't particularly representative of the average voter," Kosar says. "And that is an issue for democracy."

Trump ran a campaign for men and it worked.

Donald Trump ran a campaign for men — it worked

    excerpt:

"Trump specifically sought to get young men of all races and men without a college education to the polls. It was a risky strategy because the voters Trump was seeking have historically been among the most difficult to mobilize. But in appealing to them, Trump hoped to pull off another win similar to that of 2016, when he won men by 11 points. In 2020, Biden was able to defeat Trump in part by erasing his large advantage with male voters. This year, it seems, Trump won men back.

There are many reasons why male voters have been dissatisfied in recent years and might have been receptive to his messaging. Inflation has made the cost of living painful for millions of people post-pandemic. Men are falling behind women in education. Their wages are stagnating or declining as women’s wages grow, and fewer men are working. They are struggling with an epidemic of loneliness that doesn’t seem to be affecting women in a similar manner. Feminism has gone mainstream, making some men feel like they aren’t as valued."

If this election has the biggest turnout, as reported by most people, why have there 15 million fewer votes counted????

The hordes of Ryder trucks from the DNC print shop with all the pre-printed, pre-filled out ballots failed to show up at the polls overnight this time?

Hold your breath waiting for those or any other of his promises to be honored.

    Go.

    Yeah, that must be it.

    Dismissed.

Trump has won the popular vote by about 4.8 million votes (3.5%) in the 2024 election.

This time he doesn't have to set up a presidential commission like he did in 2017 to try to find the supposed 3 million votes that he said Hillary stole from him.

He could still make such a claim if he isn't satisfied with his popular vote win margin over Harris. Trump is known for being a sore winner.

The cost of no-tax promises made by Trump (and Harris).

It's easy to make tax cut promises about Social Security, tips, overtime, and corporations while not explaining how they will be paid for in the budget.

The cuts would need to be implement through Congress which remains nearly evenly divided. A 60-vote majority to implement some of the proposals won't be easy to realize. An example is Trump's failed attempt during a Republican-controlled Congress to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and failure to pass a watered-down skinny repeal. It made Trump fume permanently against Sen. McCain, even after his death.

The national debt increased by about $8 trillion during Trump's term. It's a higher bill the country has to pay each year for interest on the increased debt.

What Donald Trump’s no-tax pledges on tips, overtime and Social Security could cost
