Trump has made similar remarks to the U.S. farmers he damaged with tariffs during his first term. He talked like his tariffs would eventually take them to the promised land.

Trump told the farmers that they had to keep taking it on the chin for him until he finishes his trade wars, which he said would probably require a second term of him.
