Trump once again is confusing trade deficits with U.S. budget deficits and national debt. He made these same faulty statements during his first term to the Wall Street Journal when he claimed he would reduce national debt by lowering trade deficits. Trump thinks trade deficits are adding to the national debt. It's the opposite. The U.S. is purchasing goods and services from outside the U.S. at costs lower than it would pay if it purchased them domestically. It lowers spending for the U.S. which curtails the rising national debt. He's now accusing the WSJ of being controlled by China. Donald Trump Blasts Wall Street Journal As "Always Wrong" Following Blistering Tariff Editorial excerpt: "Trump wrote this morning, “The ‘Tariff Lobby,’ headed by the Globalist, and always wrong, Wall Street Journal, is working hard to justify Countries like Canada, Mexico, China, and too many others to name, continue the decades long RIPOFF OF AMERICA, both with regard to TRADE, CRIME, AND POISONOUS DRUGS that are allowed to so freely flow into AMERICA. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! The USA has major deficits with Canada, Mexico, and China (and almost all countries!), owes 36 Trillion Dollars, and we’re not going to be the “Stupid Country” any longer."
Louisiana Indicts NY Doctor for Telemedicine Abortion – Mother Jones excerpt: "The indictment comes as the anti-abortion movement has ramped up attacks on the abortion pill on multiple fronts—from pressuring the new Trump administration to reconsider the safety of mifepristone and use the Comstock Act to institute a federal abortion ban, to filing lawsuits challenging the FDA’s regulation of the drug, to introducing a flurry of new bills targeting medication abortion in numerous states. These include Louisiana, which last year became the first state to reclassify mifepristone and misoprostol, the drugs commonly used in medication abortions, as “controlled dangerous substances.” As my colleague Julianne McShane reported: To say that this designation—the same one applied to opioids and other addictive drugs—is without scientific or medical merit is an understatement. More than 100 studies have found that mifepristone and misoprostol offer a safe and effective way to terminate a pregnancy."
Trump amends his lawsuit against CBS. He has doubled the amount ot $20 billion. Trump Doubles Down on CBS '60 Minutes' Lawsuit, Now Wants $20 Billion excerpt: "Paramount Global, the parent of CBS, is nevertheless considering a potential settlement with Trump, according to sources familiar with the matter. Trump called this week for CBS’ license to be revoked, and the FCC would have to approve Paramount’s pending merger with Skydance."
CBS and Viacom have been planning to merge. Trump's administration could interfere with it if he doesnt get his way with CBS.

It has been taken as license to kill DEI,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, president and direct-counsel emeritus of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. And the court’s historic decision granting presidents immunity for “official acts” — potentially making impeachment the only real limit on presidential power — has further emboldened Trump, Ifill said: “Trump right now is not possible without those two decisions.”"
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/business/what-how-trump-tariffs-meaning/index.html excerpt: Trump has also proposed 10% tariffs on all other goods coming into America, though he said last week his administration wasn’t ready to implement those just yet. And he proposed tariffs on Denmark to incentivize it to give control of Greenland to the United States. (He has also threatened to use military force to take Greenland.) Trump on Thursday said that goods from BRICS nations — a coalition of emerging economies backed by China and Russia — would face 100% tariffs if they attempted to move away from the US dollar in international trade.
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/business/what-how-trump-tariffs-meaning/index.html excerpt: "And for China, Trump has said tariffs would be aimed at forcing the country to make good on what he said was a stated promise to him that the government would execute people caught sending fentanyl to the United States."
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/business/what-how-trump-tariffs-meaning/index.html excerpt: "And Trump has repeatedly (and incorrectly) said that “the tariff sheriff,” former President William McKinley, ushered in an era of American prosperity at the end of the 19th century by going all-in on tariffs. Though the US economy was growing strong in the 1890s, that was largely on the back of practically unrestricted immigration, among other factors. Still, Trump has used and promised to employ tariffs for three primary purposes: to raise revenue, to bring trade into balance and to bring rival countries to the negotiating table."
Trump continues to concoct narratives to defend the hirings of all the people, who he initially said were the best, whom he later fired. Trump claims he hired Bolton, even though he says he knew he was stupid, because people were fearful of Bolton. After starting his second term, Trump stripped Bolton of Secret Service protection, like he did to Fauci and others. Trump tears into his ‘stupid’ former aide Bolton, says he ‘blew up the Middle East’ excerpt: “I thought he was a very dumb person, but I used him well because every time people saw me come into a meeting with John Bolton standing behind me, they thought that he'd attack them because he was a warmonger,” the president told a reporter who asked about the decision to strip Bolton’s security detail. “He's the one that got us involved ... convinced Bush, which was a terrible decision, to blow up the Middle East. We blew up the Middle East, and we left.”
Acting on Trump's order, federal officials opened up two California dams excerpt: “Today, 1.6 billion gallons and, in 3 days, it will be 5.2 billion gallons. Everybody should be happy about this long fought Victory!,” Trump wrote. “I only wish they listened to me six years ago — There would have been no fire!”
Aparently, someone in Trump's administration talked him into turning off the water before it flooded more farms and squandered more summer irrigation water for farms than it already had.
Guy Reffitt was sentenced to 87 months in prison for rioting at the Capitol. Reffitt's son has good reason to be fearful of Trump releasing his father from prison. Guy Reffitt made threats to his family members if anyone reported him to the FBI. His son reported him. The family was fractured into factions, some supporting Trump and his rioters and others, like the son, not supporting Trump.
Donald Trump Pardoned 1,500 Jan. 6 Rioters — Here's What Some Of Them Have Done In The Days Since excerpt: Pamela Hemphill: Refused the pardon. "Accepting a pardon would only insult the Capitol police officers, rule of law and, of course, our nation," she told the BBC. "I pleaded guilty because I was guilty, and accepting a pardon also would serve to contribute to their gaslighting and false narrative."

Trump and Elon Musk Just Pulled Off Another Purge—and It’s a Scary One | The New Republic excerpt: "Former officials I spoke with were at a loss to explain why Musk would want such access. They noted that while we don’t yet know Musk’s motive, the move could potentially give DOGE the power to turn off all kinds of government payments in a targeted way. They said we now must establish if Musk is seeking to carry out what Trump tried via his federal funding freeze: Turn off government payments previously authorized by Congress. The White House rescinded the freeze after a national outcry, but Trump’s spokesperson vowed the hunt for spending to halt will continue. The former officials are asking: Is this Treasury power grab a way to execute that?"
Trump purges healthcare websites. https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-...4/trump-administration-purges-health-websites excerpts: "At the direction of the Trump administration, the federal Department of Health and Human Services and its agencies are purging its websites of information and data on a broad array of topics — from adolescent health to LGBTQ+ rights to HIV." "The changes at the CDC and NIH are examples of a broad push by the Trump administration on gender issues under an executive order titled "Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government." That order directs agencies throughout the government to stop offering "gender identity" as a choice on government forms and to end funding of "gender ideology.""
Trump emails air traffic controllers and tells them to quit their jobs. Air traffic controllers were initially offered buyouts and told to consider leaving government - WTOP News excerpt: "Just a day before a deadly midair collision at Reagan National Airport outside Washington, D.C., employees at the Federal Aviation Administration were sent an offer to resign with eight months’ pay. The union for air traffic controllers recommended to its members that they not accept Tuesday’s offer, because the FAA had not decided which positions would be included in the resignation plan. An official for the Office for Personnel Management, the U.S. government’s human resources arm, said Friday that controllers weren’t eligible for the resignation plan or subject to the hiring freeze across much of the rest of federal government."
