Why Taylor Swift Getting Booed at the Super Bowl Was Even More Chilling Than You Think

    excerpt:

"Swift was different. As soon as she appeared on screen, the crowd seemed to delight in jeering and heckling her, and the mood shift was palpable. I watched in real time as Swift, alongside her friend Ice Spice, took in the response, her brow furrowing in confusion and then apparent discomfort.

Looking at the camera, she distinctly said, “What is going on?” And girl, same, because we were all wondering what the hell was happening.

Perhaps the moment would have felt less visceral if not for the fact that less than an hour earlier the crowd had exploded—this time with applause—to see Trump on that same screen. As an image of the president, stonefaced and standing in a salute, was shown to the crowd during Jon Batiste’s national anthem performance, the roar of approval and cheers was deafening (of course, there were those in the crowd who booed the president and cheered for Swift as well, but from my vantage point, it was clear what the overall sentiment was).

To me, the disparate reactions felt like a message. That the Super Bowl, one of the biggest cultural events in the country, has been reclaimed by Trump and the type of toxic masculinity he appears to be the beacon of. And he and his supporters seem to be living for it."

Why Pence should know that voters alone can’t decide Trump’s fate

    excerpt:

On Sunday, former Vice President Mike Pence appeared on ABC News’ “This Week,” and presented a similar argument in response to questions from guest host Jon Karl about accountability:

“Look, I think that needs to be left to the American people. ... I’ve said many times, Jon, I would have preferred that these matters be left to the judgment of the American people.”

    excerpt:

“I’m not sure we are advancing the ball down the field,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a Senate Budget member.

The Texas Republican said he doubts House GOP lawmakers would accept the Senate’s version, since their leaders have been dead set on including trillions of dollars’ worth of tax cuts within one large reconciliation package, instead of pushing that into a second bill before Trump’s 2017 tax cuts expire at the end of this year.

Graham plans to use budget reconciliation process to sidestep filibuster in order to give Trump what he wants.

    excerpt:

"Senate Budget Chair Lindsey Graham says he’s ready to “fire the starting gun” to turn President Donald Trump’s policy ambitions into law, beginning with a Wednesday committee vote on a fiscal blueprint that would allow Republicans to pass party-line legislation to enact the president’s domestic agenda."

Georgia congressman moves to help Trump acquire Greenland and rename it 'Red, White and Blueland'

    excerpt:

"Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., has thrown his support behind President Donald Trump's quest to acquire Greenland — and has taken a step in Americanizing the country's name.

Carter introduced a bill on Tuesday proposing that Greenland's name be changed to Red, White and Blueland. In a press release, the Georgia congressman wrote that "America is back and will soon be bigger than ever" with the addition of the Nordic country.

"President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal," Carter added."

I hope MAGA fans enjoy life under billionaire Elon Musk's new world order | Opinion

    excerpt:

"I mean, if President Joe Biden had brought Soros into the government as an “efficiency expert” and let him have access to federal government data, Republicans would have impeached Biden instantly. They would have set the White House on fire using the flameserupting from the heads of Fox News hosts."

The MAGA people can always respond by saying that they were talking about alleged shadowy elite billionaires running the U.S. undercover, not the wealthiest of billionaires like Musk, Zuckerberg, and Bezos who are doing it in full public view right inside Mar-a-Lago and the White House, which, perhaps to the MAGA people, is ok and even commendable.

Afterall, what charm does a conspiracy narrative have if it's all happening in open view.

To some, the thrill and ego gratification of claiming to know something secret that doesn't exist is more important than something that actually exists and that's actually controlling them like their conspiracy narratives about fake things.

    Navarro thinks it's still 2017.

Trump's tariffs during his first term didn't go into effect until 2018. They weren't as agressive compared to what he's threatening to implement now.

Supply chains during most of Trump first term hadn't yet been compromised by the pandemic.

The world economy was suppressed by the pandmic, which lowered consumer demand which lowered demand-pull inflation.

Navarro has blind faith in Trump no matter how severe his tariff wars or any other policies.

Eight years ago people had hope that Trump would grow into the office of the president and behave properly.

They couldn't have been more wrong.

    excerpt:

"Richard Weil, 74, an independent who voted for Kamala Harris: "[His inaugural address] was not quite as dark as his first speech [in 2017], but it was certainly bitter. There was nothing in there that said good things about America."

Angela Ramos, 37, an independent who voted for Harris: "I found a lot of Trump's speech to be disingenuous, because he mentioned specific things like justice, honour, integrity, trustworthiness, but these are not qualities that I think are reflected in his policy or his behaviour... I watched it out of a sense of civic duty.""
