Statement from CEA President Kate Dias on Trump Administration Cutting Half of the U.S. Department of Education Employees – Connecticut Education Association

    excerpt:

"Since the president lacks the authority to shut down a federal agency without congressional approval, he has taken the unprecedented step of decimating the department’s workforce instead.

We must stand together to prevent this catastrophic dismantling of public education. Our kids deserve better, and our communities deserve better. Congress must act to protect public education and ensure all students have the support they need to thrive."

Immigrant detention centers are at capacity, Trump admin officials say

    excerpt:

"The Department of Homeland Security says its immigrant detention centers are at capacity, housing about 47,600 individuals.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday on background, DHS officials said they are working with the Marshals Service, Department of Defense and Federal Bureau of Prisons to increase bed space as they ask Congress for more funding."

Trump is ordering federal workers (whom he's firing) to end remote work and return to the federal buildings (that he's closing and whose electric vehicle charging stations he has shut down).

He's also trying to rehire workers he fired who are needed to fire more workers.

That includes any jobs related to the Deparment Of Education.

Trump said he wants McMahon to end her Trump-nominated job by using her job to close the DOE, which will end her job.

About half of the U.S. voted for that approach, thinking it will make them rich.

Trump's rioters at the Capitol showed their inherent irritability and violence.

Consider how they will feel after Trump has driven daggers into the gut of many of them.

It's expected that various Luigi will be marauding the country.

Trump will concoct an excuse for that also.

He could say that Biden should have negotiated a deal with Canada that would have prevented Canada from retaliating against Trump's tariffs.

Trump is still blaming Zelensky for Putin's invasion of his country by saying Zelensky was negligent for not negotiating a deal with Putin that supposedly would have avoided the invasion.

It's like blaming a homeowner for not negotiating with a burglar to prevent the burglary, such as giving the burglar what he wanted so that he wouldn't have to burgle the house.

Moreover, Trump will say the burglar, after being caught and punished, is being treated so unfairly because he was forced to burgle the house because of the owner not negotiating with him beforehand and giving him what he wanted so that he wouldn't have to burgle the house.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/12/elon-musk-judge-orders-discovery-00227924

    excerpt:

"A federal judge has ordered that Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency turn over a wide array of records and answer questions about plans it crafted to downsize federal agencies, fire employees and suspend federal contracts.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s order Wednesday is a win for a group of 14 Democratic state attorneys general who are suing President Donald Trump, Musk and DOGE, arguing that Musk has unconstitutionally wielded immense power in ways that are damaging their states. Any information the states glean as a result of Chutkan’s decision will help her determine whether to block Musk and DOGE’s government activities altogether."

Impoundment of appropriated funds - Wikipedia

    excerpt:

"Impoundment is an act by a President of the United States of not spending money that has been appropriated by the U.S. Congress. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to exercise the power of impoundment in 1801. The power was available to all presidents up to and including Richard Nixon, and was regarded as a power inherent to the office, although one with limits. The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 was passed in response to high impoundments under President Nixon.[1] The Act removed that power, and Train v. City of New York (whose facts predate the 1974 Act, but which was argued before the U.S. Supreme Court after its passage) closed potential loopholes in the 1974 Act.[citation needed] The president's ability to indefinitely reject congressionally approved spending was thus removed.[2]

The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 provides that the president may propose rescission of specific funds, but that rescission must be approved by both the House of Representatives and Senate within 45 days. In effect, the requirement removed the impoundment power, since Congress is not required to vote on the rescission and, in fact, has ignored the vast majority of presidential requests.[3] "

Trump defends his mass firings of government workers by saying many of them don't work at all.

Trump says he feels 'very badly' for fired federal workers but 'many of them don't work at all'

    excerpt:

Last week, White House adviser Alina Habba made negative comments about federal employees, saying: “I really don’t feel sorry for them. They should get back to work for the American people, like President Trump and this administration.” She also said military veterans affected by the DOGE-led layoffs may not be “fit to have a job at this moment.”

Trump’s Big Bet: Americans Will Tolerate Economic Downturn to Restore Manufacturing

    excerpt:

Mr. Trump also loves the idea that tariffs bring in revenues. In his Inaugural Address he spoke admiringly of President William McKinley, who pushed for huge tariffs in the 1890s, and he argued that the period was a high point for American economic policy. “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens,” Mr. Trump said on Jan. 20. “For this purpose, we are establishing the External Revenue Service to collect all tariffs, duties and revenues. It will be massive amounts of money pouring into our Treasury, coming from foreign sources.”
