Trump's voters can take solace in his promise that difficult times are ahead that must be endured by them so that he can make America great again for them down the road. It's similar to the injury he imparted to the American farmers during his first term with his tariffs, but this time it's rash, frivolous, across-the-board damage to many groups in the name of satisfying the myriad of Trump's psychological hangups. Plenty of clear signs of his mental problems were publicly visible during the 2024 campaign, yet they voted for him anyway.
It boils down to a matter of how much the promotion of psychological hangups means to Trump's voters. It's their livelihoods versus all the injury they will incur as a result of Trump's quest to retaliate against groups he and his voters don't like, such as transgender people. Some Trump-voting military veterans may not like transgender people, but is the promotion of that hangup worth taking a cut in your military benefits because of Trump and Musk attacking that group and everyone else they don't like. In the classic hierarchy-of-needs psychological experiments on monkeys, the monkey would temporarily leave the soft, warm, fuzzy doll monkey mother doll without milk to go to the cold, hard, metal wire monkey doll that had the milk. At what point will Trump's voters finally leave one monkey to go to the other that is needed for their survival. It seems that Trump's voters will stay on the soft, fuzzy doll a very long time before deciding to protect their survival.
Some of Trump's rioters gave their life for the promotion of his lies about the 2020 election. They never left the soft, fuzzy monkey doll without the milk.

Musk has caused an enormous inefficiency. 24,000 people he fired now have to be rehired. The money that was taken away needs to be reinstated. It's a colossal waste of time and money. All that so Musk could stand up on a stage with a chain saw at a public event and jump up and down about how he supposedly made the government more efficient.

In the context of the hierarchy-of-needs psychological experiment, that welfare move by Trump obviates the need for the farmers to temporarily leave the warm, soft monkey mother doll without the milk to go to the hard wire mother doll with the milk. Trump is giving them the milk without having to leave the doll.
