This whole episode in the destruction of common sense, common courtesy, common decency, and the election of an obviously inept, corrupt, lying child ,says much about this country and its citizens. I'm calling out the democrats ( and naturally the republicans) , for ignoring those that have had and are having a rough time in this capitalist society. Those who have pointed out that some folks who are or have been on welfare or some other government program for years and years have a point. 'give ém some money--not too much now--just enough to keep ém quiet and perhaps dull the desire to get off of it. This situation could have been fixed if American companies would have been disallowed from moving the production of their products to ANY other country and instead were ENCOURAGED to move to areas that contained folks that need jobs in the worst way. "well, you can't tell companies where they can operate --it's un--american--it's commie.! Uh-huh. Yeah. Well you know what? FUCK THAT!! It's damned high time the needy citizens of this country were looked after and the rich and super rich need to be a BIG PART in correcting this NEGLECT. If working people are dumb enough to think Trump or the republicans are going to give a shit about them in any way---then I guess they get what they deserve. That is-- BULLSHIT LIP SERVICE.
Hows the trickle down horseshit working for you Trump suckers?
AND---if the democrats get back in--they better have learned a lesson about poverty in this country. And DO SOMETHING about it!
(capitalism WILL have to end one day. It's inevitable. Anyone think otherwise?) meanwhile , what remains of it can surely be done in a more equitable manner.)

Admiral William H. McRaven, retired, the man who got Osama bin Laden, requested Trump revoke his security clearance.
McRaven sent a letter to Trump comparing his actions, including the removal of John Brennan's security clearance, to the communist witch hunts of the '50s.
This, folks, is what a patriot looks like.

Pentagon says Trump's military parade postponed until 2019 amid reports costs jumped 666%

Pentagon says Trump's military parade postponed until 2019 amid reports costs jumped 666%

    excerpt:

"The American Legion said in a statement Thursday that the organization appreciates Trump's desire to "show in a dramatic fashion our nation's support for our troops." But the veterans group believes that with troops still deployed overseas in the fight against terrorism, "the parade money would be better spent fully funding the Department of Veterans Affairs and giving our troops and their families the best care possible.""

After revoking the security clearance of Brennan, the Trump administration has said that Trump is considering revoking the security clearance of other officials, making it sound like an attempt to intimidate others who might make critical remarks about him.

It's unusual for the President to personally revoke security clearances and in such a vocal manner. It's usually handled by officials of the agency that issued the clearance.

Donald Trump Is a Simple-Minded Bully Who Only Knows One Tactic
    by David Atkins

    https://washingtonmonthly.com/2018/...imple-minded-bully-who-only-knows-one-tactic/

    excerpt:

"So why do it? Partly because Trump has no decency or self-control. But more than that, it was the aggressive warning shot of a temperamental raging bully trying to scare off any future enemies or betrayers. It was a message to any other federal employee of what might happen to them if they cooperate with the Mueller investigation.

The same motivation applies to Trump’s preposterous $20 million lawsuit against adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Regardless of the truth, a cagier, perhaps wiser man would have simply let Ms. Daniels tell her story, and deny it as the confabulation of an attention seeker. Powerful men with more resources than honor have done this from time immemorial. But not Donald Trump. Trump knows that there are many other women out there with non-disclosure agreements and stories to tell:

The $20 million lawsuit is an attempt to scare them all off and shut them up, just as the firing of McCabe was intended to scare and silence federal employees.

Bullying is the only tactic Donald Trump knows. This behavior is incredibly commonplace for high-functioning sociopaths, especially ones with more money than sense and who couldn’t pass a marshmallow test even as adults."

One of Trump’s most devious tactics to try to silence his critics
The latest suit against BuzzFeed is classic Trump intimidation

One of Trump’s most devious tactics to try to silence his critics

    excerpt:

"Trump loves both suing and threatening lawsuits over any perceived slight, whether it’s an artist who depicted the president nude with a micropenis, or an analyst who (correctly) predicted the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino would fail. The president has a long history of using bogus claims of libel and defamation to bully opponents and tie them up in court. The American Bar Association has called him a "libel bully," but was afraid to make the claim public because its lawyers feared Trump might sue in retaliation. There’s even a nifty online counter tracking the number of hours since Trump last threatened a journalist or critic. According to the makers of the counter, he’s threatened to sue at least 45 times since the 1980s."

Thing is that people voted for neo-liberal capitalism one of the most destructive forms of capitalism and they kept voting for it.

Over and over again they were warned what could happen if they voted against their own self-interests and they still voted in neo-liberalist politicians.

The factories moved away due to no-liberalist policies and they voted in neoliberal politicians, public schools and services were run down due to no-liberalist policies and they still voted in neoliberal politicians. Inequality grew and they again voted for neoliberal tax cuts for the rich.

The real question to ask is why did they keep voting against their own self-interests?

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

    From todays Guardian newspaper

Prominent US climate scientists have told the Guardian that the Trump administration is holding up research funding as their projects undergo an unprecedented political review by the high-school football teammate of the US interior secretary.

The US interior department administers over $5.5bn in funding to external organizations, mostly for research, conservation and land acquisition. At the beginning of 2018, interior secretary Ryan Zinke instated a new requirement that scientific funding above $50,000 must undergo an additional review to ensure expenditures “better align with the administration’s priorities”.

Zinke has signaled that climate change is not one of those priorities: this week, he told Breitbart News that “environmental terrorist groups” were responsible for the ongoing wildfires in northern California and, ignoring scientific research on the issue, dismissed the role of climate change.

US interior secretary's school friend crippling climate research, scientists say

I fail to see why anyone needs a clearance after their security-specific job expires. When I left the military my security clearance was cancelled. I sure didn't whine about it, I was glad to see it go.

But then, this is about Trump and his grandiose, ego-building maneuvers. So, it's time for Brennan to whine like a little kid. After all, his ego matters too. (To who I don't know)

He doesn't "need" a security clearance, but it's ben customary to allow top ranking intelligence officers (that leaves you out, George) to retain them. Trump's actions were petty and vindictive. As a practical matter, retired intelligence officers have been a source of advise to active ones, and their advise is better when informed with current facts. Trump's stunt is meant to heighten "deep state" paranoia that plays to his base.

The reason security clearances are maintained is that these individuals have experience in classified global matters. From time to time those currently in the same positions feel they may to know past history or seek informal advice from those who previously held the same posts.
Additionally some of these individuals serve on formal advisory boards, such as the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board.
Also some private industries require security clearances such as Lock Heed Martin.

As an example, let's say the U.S. is hit again with a 9/11 type attack. Many of those who were in position to lead the hunt and take down of Osama Bin Laden are now out of office, such as Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Vice Admiral William H. McRaven, Brigadier General Marshall Webb, Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Leon Panetta.
Their knowledge of how Bin Laden was found and killed would be invaluable to carrying out a similar mission, but if they no longer hold security clearances, they can't be advised of the current situation and are of no value.
The security clearances are largely maintained to help the U.S. government, not for the benefit of the individuals concerned.

I beg to differ, she's really good at her job. I have a weird, begrudging admiration for her....as much admiration as one can have for someone whose job it is to lie on a daily basis, that is. Just the fact that she keeps doing it and hasnt quit yet...the woman has a spine of steel. A dishonest spine, but a spine nevertheless
