Eliot A. Cohen, a former official for President George W. Bush and who served as a counselor to former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice from 2007 to 2009, has issued a warning about President Trump.

Cohen predicted that Trump’s poor character and choice of advisers will “probably end in calamity — substantial domestic protest and violence, a breakdown of international economic relationships, the collapse of major alliances, or perhaps one or more new wars (even with China) on top of the ones we already have.” Cohen continued, “It will not be surprising in the slightest if his term ends not in four or in eight years, but sooner, with impeachment or removal under the 25th Amendment. The sooner Americans get used to these likelihoods, the better.”

We already have extensive vetting for these refugees. We might have more, but there was no need for the callous, high-handed way this was rolled out. This was Trump and Bannon making a symbolic gesture to their base, at needless human cost. They did this hastily, without consulting the key agencies with expertise on the matter, and not consulting congressional leaders of their own party. In fact, they used congressional staffers to prepare the order but swore them to keep it secret from their own congressional leaders. These reckless actions had consequences decent people around the world find appalling.

    I'm so fuckin' baffled!!??
some folks here have more or less whined about the number of Trump threads and the constant bashing of the idiot Prez, some who even hold positions of moderator here.
I have two questions for ya'll
    1) Do you have any idea how many threads there were here about Obama the first year he was prez, and he wasn't/isn't a crazy mofo deserving near as much attention.
    2) PLEASE tell us any redeeming qualities Trump has that would cause you or anyone to actually support him as Prez. (and please don't be so pathetic as to mention anyone else or centuries old laws/practices, just consider Trump all on his own merits and actions thus far)

I have been around here for a number of years and rarely get involved or give a shit much about politics because it often is the same old with a different colored banner (but without all the conspiracy nonsense), but the thing is this isn't about politics and whether you support the red team or the blue team, it's about WTF! is wrong with people and are you/they really that blind to not see what the end result of these types of policies/politics will be if allowed!!!

In my opinion he has sold America out to the Russians for personal gain, ran for Prez for ego-aggrandizement and is being played like a puppet by all involved and We The People are the ones who will end up paying for it in some manner or another

i want to address the use of the term unvetted refugee. Refugees are not unvetted, they have to go through an extensive 2 year vetting process. Which is another isssue I take with Trump's 90 day ban. If refugees already go through a 2 year process why another 90 days? I dont see the point or how it would be effective. It just seems like pointless political posturing to me.

But I agree about Saudi Arabia. It would be nice if they would take in refugees.

I think the western world needs to change the way it approaches radicalization. We think we can bomb it away or strengthen our borders to keep it off our soil, but in truth there are American citizens (and canadian, european, etc) who are radicalizing and acting as lone wolves here or moving to the middle east to wage jihad. Trump (as well as Obama and Bush in the past) should surround himself with experts who have studied radicalization so he can make an informed decision, instead of punishing innocent people with a knee jerk reaction to something he probably actually knows very little about.

Trump named his first Supreme Court Justice, Judge Neil Gorsuch. Gorsuch is what we should have expected from Trump--and a good illustration of how elections have consequences. This will provide a conservative majority for the previously evenly divided court. Gorsuch is what we should have expected from Trump--and a good illustration of how elections have consequences. This will provide a conservative majority for the previously evenly divided court. Obama had put forward Merrick Gardner for the post, but Republicans in the Senate simply refused to hold hearings on his confirmation--an unprecedented exercise of raw partisan power.Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said “Judge Gorsuch has repeatedly sided with corporations over working people, demonstrated a hostility toward women’s rights, and most troubling, hewed to an ideological approach to jurisprudence that makes me skeptical that he can be a strong, independent Justice on the Court.” In most respects, he's what Trump promised us--a clone of the late Justice Scalia whom he's replacing. But he's even more extreme than Scalia in his position on money in politics. He's all for it and thinks unlimited.campaign contributions are a fundamental right. Hillary said she wanted to appoint a Justice who would vote to reverse Citizens United v. FEC--the decision that is responsible for so much dark money in U.S. politics. Gorsuch thinks the contributions should be protected as speech under the First Amendment, because as the saying goes. "Money talks," and any attempt to limit them should, he thinks, be subjected to strict judicial scrutiny. He's young by Supreme Court standards and will probably be with us for a long time. And the Democrats are in no position to block him, although I'm sure they'll try. The matter could turn on whether or not the Republican majority will allow a filibuster.

    http://www.politicususa.com/2016/11/06/melania-trump-reported-customs-immigration-violations.html

Melania's nude photo shoots have returned to haunt her.

Melania apparently entered the U.S. legally but worked illegally for a period of time due to not having a visa that permits working. It gives a black eye to Donald Trump who likes to rail against immigrants. It also shows that a wall isn't going to stop foreigners from entering the U.S. legally and subsequently committing illegal acts.

Even if Melania had been working in the U.S. legally on an H-1B visa, Donald Trump has said that he wants to eliminate this type of activity. Her modeling work should have been given to an American first.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/melania-trump-immigration-donald-226648

    excerpt:

"Even Melania’s use of the H-1B program would stand in contrast to her husband’s position today. Trump, who has made his opposition to illegal immigration the centerpiece of his campaign, has also vowed to crack down on the use of H1-B visas as president. In March, he said he would “end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions.”"

    https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/donald-j.-trump-position-on-visas

    excerpt:

"Megyn Kelly asked about highly-skilled immigration. The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions."

Glad to see you post in this thread, again.

But, let me point out that past poor practices as per immigration have no weight today, except to point out where we were wrong in the first place. Your example is a good illustration of why Trump is wrong on this one.
To make a comparison....we once had slavery, we once interned certain Japanese, and even German and Italian citizens...and I could go on and cite many other numerous things we got wrong in the past. None excuse a wrong done in the present.

Next, no one that I know of is suggesting we allow supporters of Sharia law into the country. Refugees are already well vetted. Trump has not told us what is wrong with the vetting process or how he would correct it. A logical step to take would be to identify weak areas and suggest ways to improve them, not shut down the entire process. In addition, it would be logical to address the actual countries and people that commit terrorism in the U.S. Trump is making the same mistake Bush II made, scapegoating.
I just listened to several immigrates from various Mid East countries on NPR. They all said it took years to get into the U.S. One applied as an 11 year old and got in 11 years later. Another had to wait 8 years. This is just to get on U.S. soil.

Lastly, Saudi Arabia. First, we shouldn't base what we do on what other nations do. As Reagan said when he talked about "the shinning city on the hill" in his farewell speech:
So who cares what other nations do? We set the example, we should be the leaders not the fear mongers.
But let's look at Saudi Arabia since you brought them up. They and none of the other Arab nations belong to the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention, I don't know why. We do, and we are obligated by treaty with 144 other countries to take in refugees.
Without me devoting another couple hours on research, 21% of their population is made up of foreign nationals.
They don't classify Syrians as immigrants but they have admitted 500,00 since 2011 according to the BBC. SA claims 2.5 million. But whatever the number, they do take in Syrians...I didn't research other nationalities as it's taking up too much of my time and, as I said, is irrelevant to what he U.S. does.

Last the "Hollywood elites". Who cares where they live? Aren't they entitled to free speech the same as the rest of us?

In attempt to limit the Free Press, the White House has "banned" CNN. Trump is refusing to send any of his crew to CNN for interviews.

Orrin Hatch unloads on Democrats in regard to Trump's appointments.
So let's all take a breath and remember the Republican's refusal to follow the Constitution during Obama's tenure:

    What a hypocrite.

    Then we have this idiot:

It's getting very hard to keep this thread up to date. And that's by Donald Trump's design.
Have you noticed we're not talking about the wall anymore?
Trump and Bannon have, and have had, a strategy of throwing out more bullshit than anyone can handle. If you attack a Republic with an extremely wide array of assaults on its values, mores, and legalities it must expend considerable effort to ward off those attacks.
Everyday, and almost every hour we see a new attack on our system.
Trump is using this method to consolidate as much power as possible to allow him to ramrod through anything he desires.

Already he controls the White House and has filled it with those who agree with him, even in the face of contrary facts. In his cabinet we have numerous examples of those who have little regard for truth, as is illustrated by Flynn and his infamous "Flynn Facts". Not to mention DeVoss. He has a cabinet that will agree to whatever he wants.

The Security Council has been stripped of any descent with the removal of key nonpolitical experts and the instillation of the de facto President, Bannon.

The Republican Congress has shown they will completely disregard the Democrats and not only that, they will, without warning, exclude them from voting and change laws to make any participation by them meaningless, as was recently shown during the latest Cabinet hearings. When Al Franken pointed out lies by Jeff Sessions, which should have at least caused debate among the Republicans, they changed the rules, without warning, so that they could appoint him even though no Democrat was present.

Now we have Trump telling McConnell to use the "Nuclear Option" to get his pick for the Supreme Court.
Then he'll have a solid grasp on that arm of the government also.
Let's be clear the Democrats did use the nuclear option in 2013 to end a filibuster, but the nuclear option is a Republican creation, not a Democratic one.

Also read this: From a Senator's 2003 Outburst, GOP Launched the "Nuclear Option".

As the President, he already controls the Pentagon.

He has attacked the CIA, FBI, and other intelligence agencies and we have his continued the attacks on the Free Press.

I found this extremely interesting article about the tactic:

Thank You Brother Wolf, I have been looking for that list since 2010. The last time I saw the poster was in Fort Collins or at the Tattered Cover Book Store. It just might be the most important poster in America today. Jeff Sessions and Mike Pence just might start hunting political activists who demonstrate an awareness of their agenda.

And now we have mini drones and all that shit to worry about.
I remember during the Vietnam war we worried about being spotted at demonstrations...with the tech of that era.
Now they can just access your phone.
