Canada, U.S. have reached a NAFTA deal - now called the USMCA
Trudeau says it's 'a good day for Canada,' but does not elaborate

Canada, U.S. have reached a NAFTA deal | CBC News

    excerpts:

"At the heart of the deal is a trade-off between greater U.S. access to Canada's dairy market, which is heavily protected by a system of supply management, and Canadian demands for the maintenance of a dispute resolution process, sources said.

The two sides have agreed to keep Chapter 19, NAFTA's dispute resolution mechanism, intact. That's a major victory for Canadian negotiators who have long sought to keep some sort of process to challenge anti-dumping and countervailing-duty cases — which Canada has deployed in the past over the softwood lumber file."

"Under the new NAFTA, the U.S. will have roughly the same access to the Canadian dairy market as what was given up by Trudeau when he signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade deal with 10 Asia-Pacific countries earlier this year.

Under that agreement, those 10 countries will have market access that equals 3.25 per cent of Canada's annual milk production. The exact percentage extended to U.S. dairy exporters was not immediately clear.

At the outset of the NAFTA talks, the U.S. demanded Canada dismantle supply management entirely — something that Trudeau maintained is a non-starter."

"Importantly for Canadian negotiators, Trump has agreed that no hard limit will be placed on Canadian auto exports to the U.S., sources told the CBC's Chris Hall.

That said, should the U.S. move forward with the imposition of worldwide 232 tariffs on autos, they would also apply to Canada. However, Ottawa has negotiated what is effectively an exemption, as it would still be able to export cars and parts tariff-free up to a certain amount that is well above what Canada sends south of the border."

What U.S. trade with Canada actually looks like
    By Philip Bump

Analysis | What U.S. trade with Canada actually looks like

    excerpt:

"Notice, though, that we export more in agricultural products to Canada than we receive. What’s more, we export more than five times as much dairy as we import. Then, at the bottom of that chart, services. We export twice as much in services as we import. Ignore that, and suddenly you’ve got a trade deficit, and if your argument is that trade deficits are necessarily bad and signs of being taken advantage of, you’ve suddenly got a problem.

What drove Trump’s response to Trudeau, though, seems to have been something more abstract.

“POTUS is not going to let a Canadian prime minister push him around,” National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow, said on CNN on Sunday. “He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea.”

Much of this, then, may not have been about trade. It may, instead, have been about projecting strength to Kim Jong Un — at the expense of Justin Trudeau."

World prefers Angela Merkel to Donald Trump: Pew study

A US-based research center has surveyed 26,000 people in 25 countries and found few with confidence in President Donald Trump to do the right thing. His low status is nearly matched by the Russian and Chinese leaders.

Trump tumbles down the Forbes 400 as his net worth has taken a major hit

    excerpt:

"Forbes estimates Trump's licensing operation is now valued around $3 million, down sharply from the $23 million estimate Forbes made in 2015. Brands such as Serta and Macy's separated from their licensing agreements with Trump shortly after some of his most incendiary comments on the campaign trail."

Trump earned $200,000 a year (adjusted for inflation) by age 3, by 8 he was a millionaire.
Seems his father hired him, according to the Times.
He and his father deceived and schemed their way to their wealth, including using tax fraud.

White House tries to cover up Trump's attack on a female reporter.
Reporter Cecilia Vega was called on by Trump at a news conference on Monday.
He then went on saying that she was:
On Monday evening an official transcript was issued in which the word "thinking" had been changed to "thanking".
Rumors are it was written by George Orwell.

Trump at his rally in WV.

It could be mistaken for a comedy sketch.

*** Wonder what the plaid shirt guy's facial expressions would have been at Trump's rally in WV which was even more bizarre than the one in MT.

How are Trump's handlers managing to find anyone who can stand behind him at his rallies and keep a straight face?
