Sorry I haven’t been contributing very much to the debate but I’ve had othe commitments BUT it is also due to what someone else said here – this is frigging insane, and its hard to debate insanity in any rational way you can record it as Meagain and others are doing a heroic job of doing but how do you analyses this madness. What I will say is this is being noticed around the world and America’s (often shaky) standing in it has been much diminished.
There hasn't been this much excitement since Michael Dukakis rode a tank in the 1988 presidential election campaign.
The time interview was horrible, I couldnt finish it. For those who havent read it, it goes a little something like this Babblbabblebullahiti'malwaysrightbullshitbabblebabble
In short, Trump is right about everything. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/23/us/politics/what-trumps-time-interview-shows-about-his-thinking.html?_r=0 "I’m a very instinctual person, but my instinct turns out to be right." "I have a lot of respect for Judge Napolitano, and he said that three sources have told him things that would make me right." "And then people said, “You know, Trump was right.”"
Trump's American Health Care bill gets shot down! Trump and Ryan pulled the bill today without a vote as support kept falling. No Democrats supported it and apparently the moderate Republicans thought it was shitty while the hard core Republicans thought it wasn't shitty enough. This doesn't mean that the ACA (ObamaCare) stays as it is as Trump has ordered the IRS not to enforce the requirement to buy insurance. As this will reduce the pool of those who don't need medical services it will cause the cost of insurance to rise. This appears to be Trump's plan to do everything he can to ensure the ACA looks bad instead of addressing ways to make it better. Trump blamed the Democrats. Stay tuned.
A federal judge in Virginia sided with Trump's new travel ban. This goes against the ruling of two other federal judges in Hawaii and Maryland. The Hawaiian judge is receiving threats. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump desert Washington to go skiing in Aspen as "Dad" is left to fight for "TrumpCare" on his own. Reports are Trump was pissed. Nunes cancels a public hearing next week with former Obama administration members about the Trump/Russia connection. Democrats are furious and calling it an attempted cover up. Nunes was on Trump's transition team. Paul Manafort, wants a public meeting with the House Intelligence Committee. We don't know if he would b under oath.
A great job here from Meagain, egger and others. If anything comes up from the UK side I've been trying to post it, but mainly just reading through as a kind of news digest. Comment seems largely unnecessary. Sadly, the developing facts speak for themselves.
During the photo-op with Merkel, Trump ignored numerous calls from the press to shake hands with Merkel. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3118428/donald-trump-ignores-handshake-request-from-angela-merkel-in-front-of-cameras-at-white-house-meeting/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLfukuEutIU
Trump's peeved expression when asked to shake hands with Merkel looked like that of Sylvester when being asked to kiss the little birdie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-XR_fEoUD0
In contrast, Trump did a 19-second handshake with the PM of Japan with a big smile on his face. Trump even caressed Abe's hand twice in addition to a hug. They also went to the Mar-a-Lago mansion for, as Spicer would say, strategic wining, dining, golfing, and a Trump selfie with the bridesmaids (the event that North Korea snubbed by launching a missile over Japan). People are speculating that Trump and Abe might be engaged. Trump doesn't caress the hand of his wife Melania to that extent. He left Melania at the limousine and went up the White House steps by himself on inauguration day. http://fox6now.com/2017/02/10/strong-hands-trumps-handshake-with-japanese-pm-lights-up-social-media/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiitQ-5_E_Y
Ok trying to make sense of the madness I said earlier in this thread that I didn’t think many of the ‘big promises’ Trump made on the campaign would survive his actual presidency – that they wouldn’t get a budget , get blocked in the courts or in congress or they would get changed beyond all recognition from what was said. I thought this because basically Trump is a bull shitter who played to the crowd saying the things they liked to hear, ‘lock her up’, ban the Muslims, build the wall (and get someone else to pay for it) , get rid of Obamacare etc – I don’t think he actually believed in these things he was just playing the crowd. Yes some things are going on like the creeping deportations, the end of climate change research, and the proposed deregulation and military spending and the ‘deconstruction of the administrative state’ but I don’t think Trump gives these thing that much thought either, they are the pet projects of those around him. I mean look at the signing of all those executive orders to great fanfare, most were meaningless but they made it look like something was been done, take the Muslim bans, they were so badly constructed that you think his heart wasn’t in it - it wasn’t real - but it did grab headlines and make ‘the crowd’ think promises were being kept and now the healthcare fiasco again the Trump team didn’t seem that interested, I get the distinct impression that Trump didn’t even read it, they throw it to Ryan and Ryan fumbled it and now the Trump team shrug, give up and move on. But move on to what? Because I think there is one thing Trump and his circle are interested in and really want to make their priority and that is tax cuts that will favour the rich. That is the thing that the private Trump seems to get excited by and while I could be wrong (the Trump team don’t seem that competent) I think that will be the subject they put their most effort into achieving. I’m guessing tax cuts will not just get dropped like replacing Obamacare or forgotten about like the Muslim ban or put on hold like many of his other promises (is she locked up yet). What has happened so far is insane – but rather half-hearted insanity, a lot of sound and fury that has played well to the base but I think with the tax cuts it’s going to get serious. Apologise to MeAgain for this aside
I'm going to be busy for awhile...but quickly.. The Girl Guides of Canada (version of the U.S. Girl Scouts), and Toronto School system, the biggest in Canada bans both ban trips to the U.S. because of Trump. They have banned sponsored trips to the U.S. over fears that their members may get caught up in Trump's travel ban. Russia set to hit France next. I don't have time to research this right now, but I hear there is an upcoming election in France for PM? Some right wing nut case women a la Trump is running with the support of Putin. Something about lending her a million dollars or something for her campaign a few years ago. Intelligence is warning that Putin will try to interfere in France's election like they did here. As I said I may not have it right...if anyone knows about this please correct me.
A Republican president's health care proposal is scrapped by a Republican congress...and it is the Democrat's fault.

Putin did just meet Marine Le Pen in person in the Kremlin. He officially endorsed her bid to become France's next President (and probably coordinated their election strategy and gave her millions) Now just imagine, if Trump had gone to the Kremlin, one month b4 the election and got Putin's endorsement... How would Americans react? Trump did get Putin's endorsement, but he sent someone else instead. So this is how things are now. Putin calls the shots and the rest of the world falls inline. I'm beginning to think that Putin has some secret weapon (besides the cyber-hackers and oil) that is causing world leaders to bow to him... I remember briefly hearing of some new ultimate weapon the Russians had developed. Perhaps it is a cyber-weapon that is capable of shutting down critical infrastructure. I understand the Chinese and North Koreans supposedly have this capability, so why not the Russians, who've been hacking us longer than anyone besides the NSA.
Yes. Taxing the rich never solved anything. Eventually governments had to tax the poor as well. Cut government spending and have a flat rate tax or tax imports and home goods.
