i took this..my friends dad has an off the grid house just out of the pic on the right..the pic is taken from the driveway[2.2k long] and looks across a pond..there is a private lake on the far side of the trees..i spent almost all summer looking at this

random fact...most lawnmower decks that people think are aluminum ..are actually magnesium

 

is it worth more.

 

A couple people at my work are signing their own death warrants...

 

no..but it costs them more if theyre stupid enough to do their own smelting...throwing magnesium into molten aluminum changes the melt point and ruins the batch

 

oops..yes it is..dependng on what kind of aluminum youre comparing it too

Aluminum can be worth 15 to 45 cents a pound, while magnesium is usually worth about 35 cents per pound..


i think vinegar can be used to check...if i remember right magnesium will turn black if you scratch it fresh and spray vinegar on the scratch

 

does magnesium stick to a magnet...i think thats how they do the first sort after the grinder at the depot...the belt rolls under a huge magnet that pulls out anything that isnt aluminum or waste...its actually a fascinating machine to watch

 

arctic fox is way bigger than the red fox around here

magnesium is non magnetic

although you'd think it would be from the name..

they sort it by vinegar method or hitting it with a grinder

if you find some throw it in the camp fire

 

magnesium is flammable as a dirty cocksucker. chips will burn fast and bright with the light of a match. a piece like a mower deck, thrown in a bonfire.. standback

 

I pinched my pinky between two pieces of wood Saturday, its all purple...I was helping hubby unload it from the back of the pickup...I'm an accident just waiting to happen...lol
