I love Pink Floyd, I didn't mean it like that Lol. I meant the subject matter, story of 'The Wall' is depressing. Musically and artistically I find it a great album. I'm not really into art but as an analogy to a painting I like, it's like Edward Munch's 'The Scream' painting, it's depressing, haunting and morose.
not everyone sucks these days. there are some great bands that still actually write really good songs and lyrics.
woah chill.... become more accepting and look deeper into what seems shallow to you. to assume is to make an ass out of you and me. Maybe the mainstream would have music that seems better if they had better drugs and education lmao
When we play gigs-mostly things like weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, celebrations etc-inevitably we get asked if there's 'any chance of some...' and it'll be Sweet,T-Rex,Mud,Bowie,Quo. All stuff everyone recognises,is easy to chorus to,easy to dance to,easy to bop along with. Invariably stuff from the 70's/80's-so it can't be THAT bad if 40 years later it's still regularly asked for.
Dude I've been wondering the exact same thing!!!!! Popular music nowadays is trash (with a few exceptions, of course.)
Pop music only ruins pop music. If it is shitty enough there will be other musicians who will counter it. This does not mean that will become (the new) pop music instead, like happened to Nirvana for example. But there's always other stuff than this. In fact there's more music to listen now than ever before (could be part of the problem )!
I tend to like music from the 90's and 2000's myself. Probably because this was the music I first started listening to. Hip-hop, 90's ... alternative rock 2000s everything seems so homogenous now and the market and the radio is flooded with so much shitty music now so i almost never turn on the radio anymore. only sometimes does the radio play good shit, and usually this is a special program, not the normal stuff they play EDM however still has good shit comin out, lots of good electro house and stuff. they dont make it like they used to tho, and i still have mad appreciation for the oldskool. Pop sucks, and gets copied over and over and over
Hm culd be wrong but ive come to realise tht I started to judge contemporary music harshly cos I felt attached to the music i adored so much in a period of my life. Opening up myself to newer trends - taking the time tosource music scenes i like has maintained the thirst ive always had for music. I believe music does progress, tho evertlythin(even music) steals from what existed Before.
I haven't listened to the radio in years, that music doesn't do much for me. People say to try podcasts of genres id like but honestly I've got like 4 iPhones/iPods filled with music so it's just easier to throw one on shuffle and know I'll be listening to bands and songs I'm going to enjoy. I do judge music harshly myself and I know my mind is closed to a lot of sound but at the same time my mind is quite open to what I listen to so it's like catch 22 and I think not much of it these days because why would I listen to something I don't enjoy? Yeah maybe closed minded, shallows etc. but if it's not doing anything for me why open myself to it?
Gotta say this track really upped the ante of crappy songwriting and delivery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdemFfbS5H0&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdemFfbS5H0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
