oh me too! I have way too much to do here first. Oddly enough when I think of "that time" I honestly think of seeing my beloved animals rather than any person I've loved...

edit: I'm going to admit that it pleases me so much to see that avatar I'm embarrassed [IMG]

so, on a power pole (single pole, top looks like support line, 3 insulators? and then 2 lower lines, cable maybe) what am i looking at? and if my new rental neighbors are tampering with the lowest one, what is that likely to be, what do i do, what do i check, etc etc. the dude seems questionable anyway. we have internet and phone through a cable line and modem. we get tv over the air. i have no idea what im doing, and i dont really want to start shit, but shit will have to be started if its going to affect me and mine.

the top 3 are the high voltage ones that go to the transformers...

the thicker lower ones are the single phase 220v that feed the houses from the transformer

the lowest small ones are usually cable tv and phone lines...the phone lines usually have plastic tube shaped sections every once in a while for junctions ..the tv ones usually have metal junction boxes

they are probably removing cable line filters or reconnecting things to get free cable

if you have any new problems with your stuff just mention that there was a suspicious person over at that pole and they will easily what was done

when i first got internet is was thru cable...the place wanted me to prepay for install and they kept telling me it was a simple cheap re-connect ..i kept saying no...theyre going to have to run all new lines because the cable company removed all the unused lines from my whole street..they took off all the easily re-connected lines off all the houses that werent being used to prevent theft ....and she kept arguing its a simple reconnect so i said fine ill just go ahead and prepay :)

it took the guy about 4 hours to run a new line all the way to the next pole.....he was expecting it to take 10 minutes

well if they are after free cable, they will be outa luck. I'm pretty sure all providers now bind service access to the MAC address of the modem/converter, so even if they can splice into it, I doubt they will see anything but static.

Just report that you saw someone messing with wires... You don't know who and you don't know what they were doing. Let the cable company sort it out.

no easier than any other person near your home with a laptop...wireless routers are generally where locals can hack in....like when you hook up a laptop and click internet connections available....a whole list oif wireless routers comes up...anyone local...in an apartment you can see upto 30-35 peoples router names and a spot where you can enter a password and get in...you need the password but they are highly hackable...in apartments you just put 1234 into all pf them until you hot mr lazy password man....another way is do enter adminadmin because routers have a default password in many cases it is adminadmin

phones are also listed if they have wireless hotspot activated....that is why clever people put router names such as ''my neighbor is a dick'' or ''my neighbor steals internet''...stuff like that

you are hardwired?...it would take very sophisticated equipment to get your signal isolated...hen they would have acsess to all that money you post about :)

i know, right? moreso i just want to make sure they cant use my stuff to download bad stuff. we have wifi, but the password is overcomplicated, so thats not worrying me. i guess we will keep an eye, but it definitely does not incline me towards trusting them.

you can turn off the ssid broadcast too

no one sees my router....i have to manually enter the name and then the password when people need to connect
