Something similar happened back in May when a black delivery driver was penned in between two cars and aggressively questioned by white residents in a gated community. He was delivering furniture to a home in Oklahoma, and they wouldn’t let him leave until he had a good explanation for being there. Imagine being surrounded by Kens and Karen’s,...lol...
Not at all and I'm curios why you think this. Let's break it down Karens stereotypicaly 1. are quick to call cops for any little thing 2. think their "rights" as a customer matter above all else even if it affects other people 3. Are often housewives because they think it's their place as women and the husband makes good money in a trade 4. Drive a large truck or SUV that is American made with a black flag on the window and a stick family. If the kids are old enough there will also be a sticker for the branch the son serves in. That's why they like the black flag These are Conservatives
karen is just a term to describe entitled middle class cunts. everything doesn't have to be about political affiliation or racism. some people are just shitty people, without being told to be by your political opponents.
Today's NY Times has an interesting article, "A Brief History of Karen" as a meme." The article explains that in 1965 Karen was the 3rd most popular female baby name in the USA. Now it has dropped to 635th place, a stunning loss in popularity! Why? Well we have had memes for this 'type of person' in the past. In the during Jim Crow and the antebellum period the term 'Miss Ann' was used for those types. The writer says "Miss Ann was “a woman who knew her place in society, was complicit in maintaining it, and who was at the upper end of the hierarchy. Even if she was a nice Miss Ann, she was still upholding this system that said: ‘White womanhood above all else, except white manhood.’” Other previous names are "Permit Patty," and "BBQ Becky." But "Karen" has stuck with us, resulting in Whitefih Karen, Kroger's Karen, San Francisco Karen, and the ultimate Amy Cooper Karen from NY's Central Park. The article goes on to talk about this: "Researchers also point to the demographic characteristics of the name Karen. According to Social Security data, Karen soared in popularity in the 1960s, peaking as the third-most-popular baby name of 1965, but never had a resurgence. The archetype is meant to evoke a woman of a certain age, but then again Linda, Cynthia or Susan would, too. That’s where the Karen theories get geekily fascinating. Miriam Eckert, who has a Ph.D. in linguistics and lives in Boulder, Colo., said that the word “Karen” contains what’s known as a “voiceless plosive.” “That’s the K sound at the beginning of the word,” Ms. Eckert said. “When you say some consonants, like K or a T, there’s a complete blockage of airflow and a sudden release — whereas a name like Cynthia has no stops at all. Karen is kind of a harsh sound that you can really spit out. And that aligns with the kind of person we are thinking of when we talk about a ‘Karen.’”" Guess it will be a while before someone names their kid Karen.
An administrator and staff member of the site shouldn't be promoting and supporting this, but he is. Associating negative behaviors with race, sex, age, and class is simple racism, sexism, ageism, and classism. The idea of racist, sexist, ageist, classist memes in this internet age is no surprise, a real dog-bites-man story. Using the two-syllable term "Karen" as an insult won't tax many weak minds. It's within easy reach for even the least imaginative among us. Like all bigoted stereotypes, there are bound to be many who find them to be funny or who consider them to be real time-savers. Referring to anyone as "Karen" who doesn't have that name lacks intellectual merit and reflects poorly on the name-caller. Spelled Karin and Carin, it remains a very popular name for girls in much of the world.
Domino's New Zealand stops giving free pizzas to 'Karens' after backlash Domino's in New Zealand has pulled a promotion offering free pizzas for "great" people named Karen following a backlash. The pizza chain launched the promotion in New Zealand and Australia earlier this week, saying all "mask wearing, law abiding Karens... that aren't, well, 'Karens'" were eligible to enter online for a chance to win a free pizza. But after it received complaints that the promotion was insensitive it pulled the offer from New Zealand and apologized in a Facebook post on Wednesday. https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/30/business/dominos-new-zealand-karen-offer-scli-intl/index.html
I don't like the idea of stereotypes either. There are many people on this site who believe in astrology that is all about stereotype thinking. Do you believe in astrology?
As does posting stupid shit like this without providing an alternative. I'm starting to recall why I don't hang out here that much anymore....
Interesting response from @BeatrixPothead - Reporting on a situation in the current news is in no way a statement of support in favor of this type of activity or behavior. It is what it is. The person(s) behaving this way is the sexist racist person, not the observer. Shooting the messenger is rather disingenuous.
I never looked at it that way, but you might have a point. It wasn’t too long ago that a black man would get lynched for even looking at one.
The moderator/administrator didn’t create this “character description” - not his fault. It’s a topic of discussion. There could be worse names used to describe these women doing all this stupid shit.
I love the American "Karen's" on TikTok. So far up their own backsides and yet they do nothing but make an absolute fool of themselves............
By the way, Karen’s aren’t all white women- I’ve had the misfortune of running into Black, Hispanic, and Asian “Karens” too. Same bullshit!
I think this woman stopped herself from saying “I want to know who’s friends with a black person in this builing” In the lift! That dude is one cool character! Most people would’ve got mad at that idiot in a heartbeat.
