Now drinking Lower De Boom from 21st Amendment Brewery. This is a barleywine that comes in a novel 8 oz. can, not unlike the original Red Bull cans. Perfect size for the style and ABV (11.5%). The beer is decent, too. Nice combination of sweet caramel malts of citrusy, resinous hops. 4.0/5
Now drinking one of my all-time favorite imperial stouts. The heat from the habanero peppers, coupled with the cocoa nibs and vanilla beans = pure bliss. So smooth and creamy, too!! I love this beer! 10.5% ABV. 4.75/5
There is a definite heat you get from the peppers, and well as a slight cinnamon spice, but nothing that overpowers the rest of the beer's flavors. As far as the availability, it's one of those beers that's released only a few times each year, and it usually flies off the shelves pretty fast once places start getting it in. You kind of have to be in the right place at the right time.
I REALLY, REALLY want to try that Key Lime Gose! And the Mexican Cake! Fuck... after checking out their website, I want to try so many of their brews! (Especially Dark Helmet and that apple brandy aged one!) Anyway... I'm drinking again tonight. Already got a rising buzz going from my first beer. So let's get to it! The beer: (Port Brewing - Older Viscosity) (Alc. 12%) Smell: Oak, bourbon and dark chocolate all greet my nose at the same time. Just past that, sweet malt fills out the hips of this lady. Finally, just the smallest lining of bitter hops. Taste: Like a chocolate cordial filled with smoaky bourbon, darkly beautiful all around. A quick, tight bitter grip on the tail end, just after a few coffee notes and just before the boozy chest warmth. Overall, this is a dangerous as fuck brew. Super tasty, begs to have a nice cigar smoked along with it. Almost no carbonation, deep and thick goodness. Would easily enjoy any time! And I can share the related sexy pic this time too. ...
Met up with a coworker to tailgate before the Dave matthews concert this week. He knew I was big into craft beers so he told me his buddy there is also. Got to talking to this guy and somehow waited to mention he worked at demented brewery. I told him how they were my favorite brewery out of nj. So he told me to stop by on a Friday and he could hook me up. He had an ipa from other half so I finally got to try something from them. It was interesting but I couldn't say if I like it or not. Had a strange taste to it that I never tasted in a beer before.
Finally hitting up beer #2! This is the last review of the night (still have 3 more of these in the fridge). The beer: (Founders - Sumatra Mountain Brown) (Alc. 9.0%) Smells like: Coffee and chocolate notes rise up first. Caramel flows along just underneath. Earthy hops off in the background. Tastes like: Smooth, velvety mocha body with a sweet edge. Hops bite, or rather nibble, back on the back end. A little smoky in spirit. Overall, another tasty brew! Yay! Strong coffee notes throughout with dark chocolate as a sidekick make this surprisingly quaffable for a somewhat higher ABV brew. And once again, I can share the sexy pic.
Finally Someone On Here Drinking A "Mans Beer".....Not Those Pissy Little 4.3 % Stuff.....A Beer That Grows Hair On Your Chest And Doesn't Just Go Straight Through You And Just Wet Your Pants. As Promised On This Forum Months Ago I Went Out And Bought Some Of This Craft Beer...... 4.5% And After Dropping Three I Gave Up......The Other Three Are Still In The Fridge...... If I'm Going To Drink Beer Then It Has To Be A "Mans Beer" Not Something A Schoolboy Would Drink...... Cheers Glen.
What are you talking about, Glen? Craft beer has a wide range of ABVs depending on the style. If you're looking for something with a high ABV, look for imperial stouts/IPAs, barleywines, etc. I've posted many beers here that have been 12% ABV and higher, so it's not like this is a first... lol Also, there is nothing wrong with lower ABV beers. Sometimes you want to drink, relax and put on a buzz without getting wasted in record time.
And it was SOOOOO good! Have you not seen that many of my beers are higher alcohol contents? Well, maybe a lot of them are in the 6% - 8% range, so not quite chest-hairing quality, but still... Like the Founders Sumatra I'm dinking now. This shit is awesome! Almost done with this glass and looking forward to the next. If you like coffee based brews, this one is really heavily leaning into the coffee lane for taste. It truly tastes more like coffee than beer. Oddly, it's pretty similar in taste to mixing Pepsi and coffee. (Except, his drink makes me more likely to fuck with dumb-asses on Twitter.) hee hee
12% beers are ok. but I find the sweet spot at 6% .. anything lower or higher is just not really the buzz Im looking for.. Do grab a couple flying dog imperials late night that are 9% .. but only cause I want to drink less and not wake up pissing after a nice sleep
