I picked up a mixed six-pack of out of market NYC beers this evening consisting of beers from Finback, LIC Beer Project and Interboro. My first beer of the evening was Lollipop Woods by Finback, an IPA with cherry and lime. This was brewed in collaboration with RAR. It is rather different, but works surprisingly well. Drinks very mellow and smooth, with a hint of cherry and lime. 6.8% ABV 4/5 The beer I am drinking now is Sublimated, also from Finback, a double dry-hopped double IPA. Ultra smooth and dangerously drinkable for a double. Lots of pineapple and some citrus pith. Really awesome. 8.2% ABV 4.5/5
Moving on to TacocaT from Interboro, a double dry-hopped double IPA. Lots of beautiful Cascade, Citra and Simcoe hop flavors. Moderate bitterness, and a soft, creamy mouthfeel. Smooth pineapple dankness with a doughy malt backbone that's truly reminiscent of fresh tortillas. 7.8% ABV 4.5/5
I've only had the style once from a local brewery called Quest (heh) and I thought the same. Everything else i've had from Quest has been really solid so I think maybe I just don't like the style
I like smoked beers when done right. Schlenkerla Rauchbier from Germany is perhaps the best example of the style.
I am now drinking Mad Fat Unicorn from Interboro, a double IPA brewed in collaboration with Pipeworks Brewing Company. This may very well be one of the best IPAs I've had all year. This is super juicy, dank and deceptively drinkable at 8% ABV. Super cloudy NE-style with haze for daze. Sooo soft and smooth. 4.85/5
Now drinking Party Crasher from LIC Beer Project, an IPA. Super juicy and borderline sessionable with a semi-dry finish. Lots of dank, earthy flavors. Light bitterness. NIcely mild. 5.5% ABV 4.25/5

If you're in Mass, stopping by Tree House and Trillium is an absolute must. They do not distribute their beers, so you need to go right to the breweries to get them. New Hampshire has Stoneface Brewing, which also makes some amazing beers.
No prob. Mass and Vermont are probably the best two states in the country for beer. There are so many awesome breweries in those two states.
I've had a number of beers tonight, but right now I am drinking the 2017 release of Southern Tier's Pumking. This one harks back to the early days, and is the closest it's been in years to living up to its original greatness. Less pumpkin spice and more pumpkin pie flavors once again. Really, really good.
