Drinking duclaws guilty filthy soul. It is pretty much sweet baby Jesus with no peanut butter taste. It's pretty strong on the chocolate malts but not strong in the alcohol taste. It's a bit chewy. Normally the amount of head is of no interest to me but it is worth noting that this one had no head at all. Usually you only see that in really big beers. At 7.7 this isn't small but it's by no means big.
I can't stand DuClaws. I tried Sweet Baby Jesus and it was just shitty to me. Like, you can taste that they aren't using natural ingredients and instead are using something akin to flavor packets or something. Just blah stuff
Well you would see no head on beers that use fake ingredients so i guess that makes sense. It tasted ok to me. In other news how you described baby jesus is pretty much what i think of the shock top winter beers. Also had crabbies rasberry ginger beer. Smelled good...like berry juice. The rasberry taste was good and the ginger taste was ok but the fact that they were together made it just a nasty ass taste. Kind of like mixing ice cream and mashed potatoes. Had a lil bit of a kick that made me feel like i had asthma. The way the bubbles and ginger hit the back of my throat. Not even close it was the worst beer of the trip.

Today's first beer is Kentucky's old fashioned barrel ale. Pretty much no smell. I don't know if that's just me or if it's the beer but even if it's me there is still little to no smell. Of course that means the initial taste is very light but on the back end it all hits me. It reminds me of a lighter version of mad elf but it is 10% so it is actually harder than the elf. There . Is definitely an alcohol taste in there but it is so light that it is actually nice being that everything about the beer . Is so light aside from when it hits the back of the tongue. There is also a slight malty taste that reminds me of maple. The bottle says there is orange peel in there but I get none of it besides the slight bittery aftertaste. It was by far the most expensive beer of this trip and was the second best.
I saved the best for last. next and last on my trip to the (city) is Evolution craft brewery's rise up stout. it is the best local brewer and for a while the only one but lately there have been places popping up all over ocean city Maryland. this one is brewed with coffee beans and I will start out by saying I don't like coffee but for some reason I like all coffee flavored things. especially this beer. it is one of if not my favorite beer ever. starts off with a strong but sweet coffee smell and tastes exactly how it smells. the bitterness is stronger in the taste than in the smell the drinkability is on par with Guinness but it has slightly more kick at 6.7% and also slightly fuller in mouth feel. I am pretty disappointed right now because my final craft beer is 3/4 gone and I will have to go back to the macros until I make another trip up north. I will enjoy this last 3 ounces though like they will be the last I ever have.

Oh hey... Evolution... I've had their Lot 3. But that Rise Up sounds mighty tasty! I've had a couple other coffee based brews and they were also good. From what I can tell, it looks like I preferred the Southern Tier 2XPresso to the Terrapin Wake-n-Bake, but both were worth drinking. Now I totally want to try that Rise Up! Also, thanks a ton for your reviews!!!
Oh yeah... I'm currently half way through beer #2 for the night. The beer: (Alc. 7%) Smellin it: I can smell the hops up front, but they're not threatening me or anything. They just are part of the scene, man... and it smells like a thickish scene at that. Y'know, like it has some nice curves. Tastin it: Hello, hops! The bitter qualities of hops are a straightforward quality here, but not enough to screw up my face. That thickness is here, but it tends to only present itself in the front... the curves don't slide down my throat, instead just groovin on my tongue. The tangy citrus side of the hops pique the interest of the sides of my tongue and almost stop there... ghosting over onto the top of my tongue a little after swallong the sip I've taken. Overall, my least favorite of the Yards brews I've tried. But that's simply because I'm not a huge fan of hops or IPAs and the others I've tried are much more along the taste profiles I enjoy. That being said, it's a really good IPA and you wouldn't regret this choice if you're looking for a tasty IPA.
Local food lion started paying a bit more attention to their beer list. Nothing special but they have a mix 6 section and have a couple beers I never had before. Picked up a mix 6 with 4 from New Belgium's that I never had. Nice to not have to buy 4 6 packs to try them all. Also got an o'conners black ipa. What's up with those black ipa's? Are they pale or are they black. How can you be both...
First New Belgium I tried was snapshot. It is a wheat beer. Can't help but notice the sour smell. Then as I bring it to my lips it has a tangy smell. Really makes me hope it will have that tangy taste like a citrus gum. But then I taste it and there is none of the flavors that I associated with what I was smelling. Very light with just a basic wheat beer taste. The lil bit of tangyness that is there is so light that it's a disappointment. But there is no sour taste so that was nice. There is nothing bad about the taste but there is nothing that makes me want to pay a premium price for it when there are better options available.
Next from NB is slow ride. It's a session ipa and tastes like it. Slight citrusy taste and a slight hippy taste with no bitterness. Pretty much a must if introducing a light beer drinker into the hippy beer world. Reminds me of the snapshot I just had but without the sour smell and the tangyness is replaced with hoppyness. If it wasn't for fat tire being such a good beer New Belgium would start reminding me of Abita.
I love the "choose your own 6 pack" deals. It's been awhile since I've made one, just getting regular 6 (or 4) packs instead. But they are great for exactly what you mentioned... being able to try out something you're curious about, without having to buy a whole pack... just in case. As for black IPAs, I found this:
I forgot about this thread. I recently went for a microbrew crawl up in ocean city.got a growler from backshore brewing. The beer was much better on the flight plan. I drank it that night in a pint glass but somehow it lost the brown sugar taste. The other 5 beers they had were average at best. The apricot whatever was everything bad about a sour beer and nothing good about it. Got one from ocean city brewing too. Service was horrible and really bad.. and a little incompetent, and the flight plan only had 3 beers on it. I wasn't going to order 3 flight plans so I just got the walnut pecan stout to go. That beer was Damn good there and at home. Stopped by the assawoman brewing company tasting room. They had all light beers except the ipa. And that was sold out. The wheat beer I got there was alright but wheat beers are not my cup of tea.
