Later this evening we went to one of my favorite spots, The Old Toad, for dinner. While there I had a Crooked Moon Tattoo Stockholm by Mikkeller, an imperial stout. 8% ABV Pours a dark black color with a little bit of creamy head and a faint lacing. Aroma is of dark chocolate, dark fruits (fig, plum, raisin), coffee, sweet caramel malts, a green leafy herbaceous quality, and some earthy yeast notes. Flavor is of figs and other assorted dark fruits, dark roasted malts, chocolate/cocao, molasses, black licorice, brown sugar and some earthy spice. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly syrupy, and a light-moderate carbonation. Overall rating: A
I also had a beer from a brewery I had been wanting to try for a while. This is from Barrier Brewing Company out of Oceanside, NY. The name of this beer is The Hills Have Hops. It is a double IPA. This was the cask version of the beer. 8.5% ABV Poured a hazy, nearly opaque, bright golden-orange with 1-2 fingers of off white head. Aroma is of juicy citrus (tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit), some dank pine, honey, peppery spice, and some lightly sweet, bready malts. Flavor is of juicy, tropical hops (grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, pineapple, stone fruit), wet grass, white pepper, caramel, some earthy and herbaceous notes, and bready malts. Mouthfeel is light-medium, incredibly smooth, and with little to no carbonation (again being the cask version of the beer). Overall rating: A
Just lke how I used to review your pictures on here. I think we both have a bit of natural talent when it comes to reviewing things.
yeah, we really do. I hope the world knows what a gift they're getting with our free reviews. We should be getting paid.
Got a mix six with 3 that I don't remember having. I think they were magic hat...I always mix them up with star hill. The other three were two hearted, double IPA from Sam Adams, and Lil sumpthin Got some jalapeños to put in my Milwaukee best. These were some particularly hot peppers because I needed a half of regular beer to slow the burn after just a few sips.
This will be my only "big beer" for the night seeing as that I have to be into work at 11 (which fucking blows). This is Cosmic Ristretto from Green Flash. It is Baltic porter brewed with espresso, roasted malts and Belgian candy sugar. 8.2% ABV Pours a rich black color with about an initial 1/4 inch of head. Aroma is dark, rich roasted and caramel malts, dark chocolate, espresso, some dark fruits (raisin, plum), some herbal, leafy notes, and a roasty earthiness. Flavor is very much akin to the nose. Again, lots of dark, roasted malts, big coffee/espresso flavors, dark chocolate, dark fruits, toasted nuts and fresh tobacco. Mouthfeel is light-medium, slightly creamy, and with a tight, tingly carbonation. Overall rating: A-
Moving on to something a bit lighter, this is a newly-released, limited edition beer from Brooklyn. This is their new Bel Air Sour, an American sour ale. 5.8% ABV Pours a clear golden color with an aggressive two-finger head that subsides quickly. Aroma is of lemon zest, green apple, earthy hops, toasted grains, wet hay/grass, some slight herbal notes, and a pronounced yeasty spiciness. Flavor is mildly tart with hints of lemon rind, green apple skin and some tropical fruits. The sourness is cut mid-palate with a dry, somewhat earthy hop character and some peppery spice-like notes. I am getting some faint bready malts and earthy grains towards the middle of the mouth and into the finish, as well as some spiciness from the yeast. Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and with an assertive carbonation and mostly dry finish. Overall a decent sour from Brooklyn, and the first sour I have had from them. This is pretty much the first sour I am even aware of them releasing. Overall rating: B+
