The hidden. The first time that changing the timeline with flashbacks made a movie great. OK not great but really good.

Birdman. It got some bad reviews here but I decided to check it out anyway. Glad I did, I thought it was awesome.

It may seem too dialogue heavy or artsy-fartsy, but I'm having a hard time thinking of 5 Hollywood movies made in the last 25 years that are as good or even in the same league (admittedly I don't watch that many Hollywood movies, because I think that the majority either suck outright or aren't good enough to justify watching them).

It had some interesting, and I would say important themes that it developed very well. The acting was overall good and in some cases excellent.

The camera work, shot composition, and segues were impressive. Allegedly no one has ever shot a movie in the same style before, and they had to invent technique from scratch. To have brought together all the technical and other elements of this film so well is an accomplishment.

This movie was just solid across the board. It had something to say, and it said it well. Totally deserved the awards.

    The only drawbacks imho were

    1. A couple gratuitous cheap shots at Asians

    2. A bunch of product placements. They were done subtly, but I hate product placements in general.

    3. A gratuitous lesbian make-out scene. Added absolutely nothing to the film. Seriously, it's like the lesbian gestapo won't let a Hollywood film be made these days without at least one lesbian scene in it.

Pixels. Looked interesting when i first saw a trailer. After the bad reviews i put it on the back burner. After a couple good reviews here i gave it a try. Not bad. Not great but well worth my hour and a half.

Speaking of Tom Cruise, I heard on the radio today by weird chance, as i just finished watching the movie not too long before....he sold his home for quite a few million dollars and is moving out of tinsel town, as he said he has had it there.
