Bitch is my nickname from my g/f and we both use it as a term of endearment as well. In my eyes anyone of any color can be a "N" word. It has nothing to do with race! To me it means that you are a poor ignorant person. But I choose not to use it because I don't like to offend people. Now piss me off and that is another story.

I have ancestors who were slave owners, and I have ancestors who were "crackers". That doesn't make me either.

My black friends may have slave ancestors but they are not slaves.

If someone chooses to call me an antiquated racially derogatory name I feel no connection to that.

We are who we choose to be today.

I recall one awkward moment when an American of color visited central Africa and couldn't think of anything to call the local folks but "Afro-Americans"??? Never mind the fact that they had no connection to the USA nor even the American continent.

She meant no harm and I don't think they were anything more than amused by her choice of words.

i don't think any word offends me.

in popular usage where i've lived, ****** doesn't have anything to do with race anymore, but i still don't say it because i know certain people will flip out if i do. sort of like ****.

****** is considered offensive. Nigga is the accepted term. It's a term of endearment, like brother. People believe that ****** came from the ethopian word negus which means king, apparently that was the slave catchers and masters way of mocking them because they were now far from kings, they were slaves. I see nothing wrong with nigga I think it should be exclusive to the black community but I won't be offended if a white person calls me nigga.

Kind of like saying someone "jewed" you

    or

So and so is an "indian giver"

I've never liked any of these terms, yet we still use them.

As I learned it growing up in the Savana/Atlanta region of the South was that 'cracker' refered to the sound of the white overseer's bullwhip.

Personally I feel PC is the worst thing to happen to American comunication since the civil rights era of the '60s' If someone thinks of me as a dirty half breed injun or a honky I'd much rather have them say so to my face than smile and hide behind PC.

I agree, I think it came from Negro too. But I heard the negus origin "theory" from other people.

“Indian giver” I haven’t heard that expression since I was kid

As for the N-Word it all depends on the context……. If a white guy walks up to me and says “Fuck you ******” the said white guy is enjoying a knuckle-supreme sandwich [IMG]

If a white guy walks up to me and says” hey my ******” he’s a wigger and should be ignored at all cost :(

Nice job of sidetracking me. lol

Dad was a little funny about it all. He wanted me proud to be Cherokee "Anyone calls you a halfbreed kill them." (Mom was Dutch) Dad was Cherokee and a Scots, Irish, Welcn mix and that was all ok but we were not to mention a great great etc gran mom had been an Irish Catholic. At the time of the Trail of Tears we had three chiefs and to look at their exteriors one was Cherokee, one Scots, and one Black so you mix up a dozen cousins and you need a program to sort 'em out.
