Why do you think they are protesting against the mosque?

Actually, one of the protesters of the mosque at the rally was upset because it might go up before the new wtc.

    It looks ok [IMG]

I suspect things could have turned violent if the architectural design called for a miniature version of the trade center

That's practical, though. One tower for women, one tower fo....ok, perhaps an unwise move. :D

The SIOA coined the term 'ground zero mosque' and organized the protest in August 2010 in NY. Its parent group the SIOE organized a similar event in 2009 in London on the anniversary of the Sep 11 attacks.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Islamisation_of_Europe

    Excerpt:

    "Harrow Central Mosque protest

"On 11 September 2009 SIOE staged a demonstration in Harrow which generated national and international media attention. The purpose of the demonstration was to campaign against the building of a five storey mosque, Harrow Central Mosque, which was under construction.[17] The group had pledged to hold a peaceful protest.[18] According to the London Daily News; "Local residents in Harrow have been consistently against the creation of this mosque",[19] the paper reported that the "Anti-Islamic groups organised peaceful protests outside of the new "super-mosque" which has a minaret over 300ft high, only to be confronted by masked Muslims".[19] Unite Against Fascism was present to oppose the demo, as well as Muslims who claimed to be there to "defend the mosque".[20][21][22][23] In all over 1000 people gathered outside the mosque.[5]

The date of the protest coincided with the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and was intended to mark the anniversary of the attacks.[24] Counter demonstrators clashed with the police, throwing bricks, bottles and firecrackers.[25][20] Ten arrests were made during the protests, including the organiser of the protest Stephen Gash.[5]"

It's absolutely completely and totally fucking ridiculous. If this is prevented in the supposed "land of tolerance" then this whole country is a farce (as if the gay marriage bans weren't indicative enough). Fuck these people if they think that oppressing a religion and stymieing a gesture of acceptance to people who ALSO lost lives in the attack is acceptable in any way shape or form.

Not that i want to get off-topic... That sure is a shiny building.

On top of that they'll have to finish lining the whole inside with explosives before they can even think about reopening it.

The scary thing is, you think it was Muslims.

"By the time the World Trade Center was destroyed, the Arab fighters surrounding Osama bin Laden were just a dwindling remnant living on past glories of Afghanistan’s struggle against Communism. Al-Qaeda has never been and certainly is not today an immensely powerful terror organization controlling Islamic banks and charities throughout the world."

Al-Qaeda maintained training camps in Afghanistan like Camp Faruq, where Muslims could receive basic training just as American Jews go to Israel for military training with the IDF (not a great comparison ).

When did I say they were or did?

Btw, that article was half ok...I learnt something new.
But it was grossly prejudiced too.
