I probably own more guns than all the NRA defender posters on this thread. But there is a big difference between self defense and a mass murderer. The only thing an assault weapon is good for, is mass killing of people. The NRA has made that possible by getting the ban overturned, and making those weapons of mass destruction available. The NRA and the republicans that made assualt weapons legal might as well have pulled the trigger in the Colorado movie theater themselves. They are just as guilty as the nut job that did it.
Just because the NRA helped get legislation passed does not mean that he would not have been able to carry out his plan without the assault rifle. He could have bought some fertillizer and just blown the place up. Just like he tried to do in his apartment. Who are you going to blame for that one. Dow Chemical? The internet for showing him how to make a bomb? Blame the nut job who did the killing not the tools he used. Put some effort into finding out what made him go over the deep end and fix the problem. I am not defending the NRA I was a member 20 years ago but I don't like everything they do. But I do know where to place the blame.
It's funny how the government figured that out after the OKC Fed building, but they haven't figured out assault weapons yet. Maybe if someone gets in the GOP convention with one they'll figure it out. It will probably happen at the DNC convention though, the nut jobs are right wing.
Handing guns out to random people who wanna go on killing sprees? That's called "Population Control."
Yeah, I didn't expect pro-gun people to be able to respond with any level of intelligence but thanks for confirming that for me. Good article
The reality is that firearms laws are, by definition, only obeyed by the law-abiding. Down under, a conservative government confiscated ALL semi-auto longarms and pump-action shotguns in 1996-1997. Didn't make one iota of difference to crime. They then banned pistols that are either too small (barrels less than 4 inches) or too large (we can't have anything over 38 calibre unless it's black powder or you are a member of a recognised silhouette shooting club). Didn't make one iota of difference to crime-indeed, if anything handgun crime has increased since 2003. NRA a terrorist organisation? I don't think so.
And I didn't expect anything other than the usual hide-in-the-corner-thumb-sucking-in-the-fetal-postion response either -- thanks for confirming that.
When bongs are outlawed, only outlaws will have bongs... ...wait, wrong forum......never mind :daisy:
One problem I have with this - can someone tell me how a shy student would get his hands on a gun in Australia? There are no gun shops, no way to get a license, and less than 0.1% have guns. I wouldn't have any idea how to obtain one. It's not only the difficulty of obtaining, but the gun culture. Most people in Australia would be shocked to learn an acquaintance of theirs owned a gun. In the US it's seen as normal.
The NRA is comprised of lobbyists, pushing an agenda. Nothing more or less. So let's not make them out to be more. Or less.
