Hey soaringeagle;
until you jumped in with you name calling(morons) this was basic exchange of ideas which are granted to "morons" such as yourself by the owning of arms.Damn dude you claim to be 38 years old, can't you act like an adult and discuss a topic in an intellectual manner.Or has living among "crack-heads"turned you into an uneducated crack head yourself. The first amendment which allows you to belittle people for their views was granted to you through the use of fire arms.I planned on coming in here and lowing myself to your level and call you everything but human. But my intellect, will not allow me to belittle you for your beliefs. You are entitled to them guaranteed by the 1st amendment, just as we are entitled to own fire arms by the 2nd amendment. If you had any sense you would have noticed there is not one single hand gun posted in this thread. The number of murders you so blindly speak of,are committed with hand guns and not long arms.I myself am a hunter who has raised 3 kids on nothing but wild game,so who is the moron.Me for feeding my family,or you for exposing your family to such an environment, such as a crack hood.Look in the mirror if you wish to accuse and call names and point fingers.

I am addressing you solely because you say you are 38 years old,act like it,instead of joining the ranks of the uneducated snot-noses who had their little blurps of bullshit because they don't know any better. That is why I am not even entertaining their shit, they are still wet behind the ears and have alot to learn.

It is obvious that your mentality is due to your lack of oxygen, since your head is so far up your ass, that you are in need of a glass stomach so you can see where in the fuck you are going.
See your attitude made me go where I didn't want toand I am not going to go any further on the slanderous shit.Just do me a favor, change your nick,it is an insult to every vetern that has served (myself included) for you to refer to yourself as an eagle, the symbol of freedom, might I suggest something along the lines of "suckingchicken"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you really have to hijack the thread? I started it with the best of intentions. Fylthevoyd just about summed up my thoughts, watching you 2 shit on the thread.

If I had 5 thousand dollars, for firearms, they would all be historical in nature. Does that defuse the criminal sterotype you shoved me into? Just because I have a firearm.

Have'nt you seen Boyz In the Hood? They want the "crack dealers" to kill themselves. That's why there is a gun shop and liquor store every 10 feet. The conspiracy nuts will agree also.:H

I'm guessing there will be no further contributions.

The gun policy in Switzerland is unique compared to those of other European countries. People are allowed to keep their own arms and trade in them without any real constraints.

The most notable thing about Swiss gun habits is that every member of the Swiss army, which is a militia, keeps his personal assault rifle (the SIG 550) at home, together with some live rounds of ammunition and his other personal military equipment. This means that every Swiss citizen, aged 20 to 42, who is fit for serving in the military, owns such a firearm. But only a very small minority of crimes are committed with army rifles, mainly suicides and domestic violence. A more common misdemeanour is selling a rifle to someone and then reporting it "missing", perhaps by "losing" it during the journey home from the yearly repetition training.

The distribution of ammunition is strictly controlled. One can't buy the 5.56x45 mm ammo for assault rifles, and though assault rifles are broadly used in riflemen festivals (even 16 year old children can participate), it is nearly impossible to take some rounds home from a riflemen club.

Number of guns in circulation

In some 2001 statistics[1], it is stated that there are about 420,000 assault rifles stored at private homes, mostly SIG 550 types. Additionally, there are some 320,000 assault rifles and military pistols exempted from military service in private possession, but they have been changed to non-automatic operation. There are several hundred thousand out-sorted carbines too. The total number of firearms at private homes is estimated minimally at 1.2 million; more liberal estimates put the number at 3 million. This means that 16 out of 100 inhabitants would possess a gun under the liberal estimate. According to these statistics, a great number of suicides were carried out by means a gun, and domestic violence in combination with firearms was "really" a "problem".

Carrying guns

To carry guns in public or outdoors, one must have a "Waffentragschein" (Weapon Carrying Permit), which will be, in most cases, only released to people working in a security company. Even possessing such a gun permit makes no difference to a normal citizen; everyone may only use force in case to avert immediate danger to life and limb. The police, naturally, have broader competences in regard to dealing with someone who is about to endanger one's life.

Conditions for getting a Carrying Permit

There are three conditions:
• fulfilling the conditions for a Buying Permit (see section below)
• stating plausibly that he needs to carry a gun to avert himself, other people or objects from an actual danger
• passing an exam testing weapon handling skills and knowledge about lawful use of the weapon
The Carrying Permit remains valid for five years and it applies only to the firearm type for which the permit was released. The state may add additional constraints to a specific permit. Hunters and game wardens do not need a Carrying Permit.

Buying guns

To buy a firearm in a commercial shop, one needs to have a "Waffenerwerbsschein" (Weapon Buying Permit). A new permit is needed for every purchase of a weapon. Everyone over the age of 18, not disabled or posing security problems (such as endangering his own life and the life of others) and having a clean criminal record can request such a permit. The sale of automatic firearms and semi-automatic firearms is forbidden, and the sale of disabled automatic firearms which can easily be transformed into an automatic firearm is forbidden likewise; and the seller must in each case verify the buyer's identity.

To buy a gun from an individual, no permit is needed, but the seller has to be sure that the buyer will fulfill the abovementioned conditions; also, they have to execute a written contract about the deal. The paper must indicate the identities of both the buyer and the seller as well as the weapon type, manufacturer name and the serial number of the gun.

After turning 18, everyone can buy single-round or multiple-barreled rifles and frontloaders without a permit. Likewise, members of a recognised rifle association do not need a Buying Permit for buying ancient repeaters, and hunters do not need one for buying typical hunting rifles.

Historical Firearms

Switzerland is the only country in which it is lawful to make your own blackpowder, as only blackpowder for blasting purposes is covered by laws and governmental decrees. In Switzerland people can buy blackpowder, which is intended for use in historical rifles, freely in gun shops. This is a loophole the Swiss pyrotechnics artist Roman Signer has used for an explosive "installation", consisting of several miles of fuse wire and heaps of blackpowder aligned beside a railway line.

Swiss Are Safe, Even Though Firearms Abound

Visitors to Switzerland are astonished to see guns and rifles being carried openly in public -- particularly when there is a "shooting festival" occurring nearby. In fact, Switzerland has more firepower per person than any other country in the world -- yet it is one of the safest places on Earth.
• In 1997, there were 87 intentional homicides and 102 attempted homicides in the entire country -- with firearms involved in 91 of the 189 total cases.

• [*]Switzerland had a homicide rate of 1.2 per 100,000 population and a robbery rate of 36 per 100,000.

[*]Almost half of those crimes were committed by non-resident foreigners -- whom locals call "criminal tourists."

[*]By comparison, Britain -- which has strict gun control laws -- had a homicide rate in 1994 of 1.4 per 100,000 and a robbery rate of 116 per 100,000.
Although Switzerland has local shooting contests for boys and girls ages 12 to 16, there have been no school massacres in the country. All males between the ages of 20 and 42 are required to keep rifles and pistols at home for purposes of national defense. Military historians do not doubt that this was a big reason Hitler chose to avoid Switzerland in favor of conquering countries which had strict gun control laws -- as well as registration lists which facilitated confiscation of firearms.

spliff;
thanks dude for your intellectual facts search and posting of them.sucking chicken is just ranting out os basic stupidity and has no foundation to stand on.Thumbs up to you,and very nice collection I might add.I sat here and wrote 3 different name calling rants last nite, and finally opted for being above suckingchicken's level. It is obvious his time spent on earth has been a total waste.Statistic started a thread over his belief, and pride of something he has.I posted mine in order to show him some support. Then all the juvenile bullshit surfaced, real cute(pie and coffee),,and "I'll stop you with a hug" hug this asshole. So once again dude, thanks for helping in presenting an intellectual arguement. But of course the legitamite gun owners are always the intellectuals, while the naysayers are always just talking out their ass......such as suckingchicken has shown us.I do take it as a personal insult to think of all my buddies I lost in 'nam, and the many before them......that allows such shit for brains to speak that shit. That is treason in my book, and by the UCMJ treason is still punishable by death. No more needs to be said......you understand. Thanks again Spliff,Statistic from a brother in arms. Suckingchicken go fucking enjoy your dismal life in "crack central" and support the real cause of decline.

suckingchicken? brilliant, you sure showed your maturity level there.. so your talking about feeding your family with your guns & then theres all these assault rifles?
who is the chicken here?
dont assume you know the 1st thing about me based on where i live or anything, & spliff, whats your point about switzerland? switzerland isa completely different society.. they have just as many guns & carry them just as openly in isrreal & arab countries & look at the violence there..
the constitution may have come about through the use of guns, but since then its just been civiains killing eachother..many times its the gun ownrs themselveswho get too hot headed arguing with theyre spouse & shoot them in fits of passion..or how many thousands of kids have to find a gun in a closet & shoot themselves before we realize there are just too many guns out there?
would u deffend my right to own an assault rifle if i was hiding in a tree with 1 aimed at your head?

No need to have a sport car that can travel 150 MPH and kill a whole family in a heart beat or a blink of an eye.
