They say Nero wanted to clear land near the Forum so he could build his magnificent palace, the Domus Aurea, the ruins of which are now underground, next to the Coliseum.

Monks, Priests, and worse Popes are educated beyond most people's imagination.
They were after all, not long ago, the only ones with access to education, and today are guardians
over tunnels filled with precious knowledge.
They don't follow traditions, this is why they seem so strange.
They "teach" traditions, but aren't inclined to follow them.
I've read the Pope quit for several reasons but not the least of which was a security leak
when his butler stole secret documents. Other reasons alleged include discovery of a Vatican call-boy service. A pope with more secrets than any wouldn’t be able to function in an office with spies who make secrets public. Its possible he will remain Pope but from secret chambers.
If the scandals have injured the Vatican's ability to operate in secret, then they may feel measures must be taken.
None of this is new, perhaps younger people think its new because they just heard of it, but it goes back
as far as I can remember. I remember the Mafia scandal, the drug smuggling scandal, the Nazi scandal, the mercenary scandal, and the Vatican Bankruptcy scandal.
In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Renaissance popes bribed their way into office, openly kept mistresses and families and appointed young nephews as cardinals. Alexander VI, whose pontificate from 1492 to 1503 is generally agreed to have been the worst ever, was said to have presided over more orgies than Masses. He came from the notorious Borgia family, who have been accused of adultery, rape, incest and murder. Alexander is said to have died from eating a poisoned apple.
It would be naive to think there’s something being "exposed", this has gone on for hundreds of years, and will continue for as long as this world continues and perhaps far beyond, banning a bombing of Vatican city I can't see any end to it, and the idea that revelations of Vatican corruption are recent is just so wrong its absurd.
If the Pope was caught hiring a hit-man to kill his rival, rather than quit this wouldn’t be new.
If he had sex with his daughter, it wouldn't be new. If he was involved selling drugs, it wouldn't be new.
If they protected organized crime, not new. If they murdered their wives, not new.
The thing I see as new is resignation, its not new but so rare it indicates major security overhauls and that some people are going to wind-up dead in a river somewhere.

And when the US "falls" you think there will be an end to empire's and all nations will be equal and cease meddling in the affairs of others? More likely, we will see the EU and the US join together in some sort of Union...

It's not that far off, the UN already writes laws, making it a world government.

I second this motion. Mostly cause snoop is the shit.

But remember, just because he's black doesn't help anyone. Obama is black, and he's running the USA into the ground harder and faster than all of the socialists before him, including george bush and reagan, they were socialists too!

    Thomas Jefferson for president!:ssmokeit:

The Roman citizens had a hammer lock on the election of the pope.Always Italian and usually Roman. The rest of the faithful said."enough!" So they created the anti-pope.In France! Two vicars of Christ squabbling over the flock. It was better when two sisters, courtesans by trade,Ran the church through Guile Their sons ended up popes

well, those Romans did a pretty crummy thing 2000+ years ago. but, i still hope for a Good Pope to come forward. the Catholic Church needs a strong man of God to lead them out of the mess and into the Light.

Here comes the next Pope, not much different from the old Pope, no matter what colour he is.
