although i really dont like to look at porn, i dont think it demeans women. this is not to say that some people who view porn will never demean women. tell the person that the nazis burned books, so if she thinks the womens movement should burn porn, then its not the porn resembling nazis.
Comparing pornography to Nazism is a logical fallacy (Argumentum ad Nazium): Wikipedia has a page about it here
It all depends on the type, there are so many different kinds of pornography, it's all made to wrap around the individual's personal taste. Just like there are different types of cereal, there are different types of porn. It's made for the consumer and there are verities to suite everyone's taste. Pornography does all of the above anymore these days.
Yes there are many different types of pornography, but that doesn't change the fact that women get getting there clothes off to provide a kick for men, be it having sex or not. Women nor men I believe should do that, it is a stranger that will allow themselves to be used for money - no different to prostitution.
Well comparing porn u dont like to genocide is idiotic really IMO. Types of porn shouldnt really be taken "seriously" - its just entertainment. And u could say the same about women's romantic novels. Not wishing to offend anyone , but I cant think of an attractive anti-porn protester *ever*. Really I think alot of it is a form of jealousy from people who failed to adjust to a tolerant /broadminded adult world... PS no I'm not a woman !
This is a very interesting thread. I agree with KC. I don't see anything wrong with pornography and prostitution. No matter what field of subject you are looking at, you will likely find "victims". I've seen a lot of victimization in corporate America, and I don't see a big difference. Who are we to tell women what they are allowed to do with their body to make a living? My mother was a stripper when I was a kid. She made good money, and provided for us better than she likely would have been able to do if she worked in a lesser paying, "normal" job. She was, and is still, a free-spirit. She was a bit of a nudist. She taught us respect for ourselves, and our bodies. I truly believe that I am a well adjusted person because I was not raised by someone who was fearful, uptight, and who thought of sexuality as a "tabu" subject.
i think the bigger victimisation of these women come from the people who stigmatize them for what they do. why wouldn't they prefer to listen to their employers? at least their employers PAY them and thus provide tacit approval to them. people who hate what they do and think less of them for doing it don't help one little bit.
