Not all cops are stupid jockish tyrants out to kill your fucking buzz. There are more than there should be, but most are just regular guys and girls who have to make ends meet and are underqualified for a job as a lawyer, GM, or whatever. To make blanket statements like that is totally ignorant. i've had a few bad encounters with the cops, but ya know what whenever i needed their help they were almost always there for me.Where i live a person has to have 2 years of college or 2 years in the militaryto be a "pig", so maybe the cops here aren't so bad. they could give a shit if you're smoking a joint as long as you're not being stupid about it. think about the cops that died risking their lives to save others, many of them going in knowing they weren't coming back during september 11 before you start talking about the punkass mentality it takes to become a cop. Every cop i ever met off duty was a pretty decent person. Our society is becoming something of a police state, but it isn't the police officers as individuals who are making it that way. If cops in your area are behaving inappropriately report it to your mayor, your city councilman, or write a letter to the editor. Get their Badge number, car number, and report the date and what happened to anyone in power who will listen. As for gun control, I gotta say that woked well in Nazi Germany, Cambodia, right now in burma, and in communist Russia. As long as citizens are armed police should be as well. if you're stupid enough to pull out a gun or anything resembling a gun in front of a cop whose gun's drawn, i can only hope you haven't already pissed in the gene pool by breeding.
Happy to hear that somewhere out there are some "good" cops. No point in complaining to the mayor or anybody else around here. EVERYBODY knows whats up with them, but nobody seems to be able to do much if the State Police investigate and find that there is "no problem". The FEDS have "investigated" these guys over and over again. This county has 7300 people in it. The county seat is the "biggest" town and it has one red flashing traffic light. It's not much different than living in a small town. There are two or three town cops, a sheriff, 5 or 6 deputies, and 3 or 4 state cops. Plus they regularly bring in the "States" from the next county over. With such a small population and such a LOW crime rate and SO MANY COPS, they don't have much to do, so they go out LOOKING for trouble... After all, they gotta look busy. There is one who has been a Trooper here for 20 some years. Born and raised here, knows or thinks he knows EVERYBODIES business. He's been in trouble and been investigated and gotten the State Cops sued so many times that you would never believe he could ever still have his job, but he's a Corporal... Corruption from the top down. The entire state. But enough of that. Bottom line is that you have to be a certain type of person to WANT to be a cop. Good guys can't last. If the Colonel gives an order, you got to follow it, even if it's wrong. If you file complaints against the State Police with the Governors office, they forward them to the State Police. Then the State Police investigate the State Police. And mostly they find the State Policeman in question did nothing wrong. In order to even come close to getting fired from the State Police 'round these parts you would have to get rip-roaring drunk IN UNIFORM and ON DUTY, and attack an entire building full of innocent women and children with guns drawn, killing every one of them in cold blood for no reason. And then there would have to be SEVERAL other State cops there as witnesses, who are actually willing to tell on him. Then MAYBE they would investigate and find someone MAY have done something wrong and maybe he'd get 3 days off with pay.... If the guys in charge of these PORKERS will not control them, and the Governor won't, and the FEDS can't, and Homeland Security don't give a rats ass, then I'm figuring they're all in cahoots... It's completely out of control. And so much "missing" evidence... Where DOES it all go??? Oh yea, and it DOES happen occasionally around these parts that someone comes home and catches the cops INSIDE their house taking pictures WITHOUT a warrant. This is some serious stuff... Only thing really being done is several citizens besides myself are making A LOT of noise about it... One of them is a county commissioner... So, it's "the people" taking the bull by the balls, because nobody else will... Lord, I hope this works... (Famous last words)
move to a different location and stop paying these d-bags salaries with your taxes. that is if u've exhausted all other methods.
Methods FAR from exhausted... I've been here for 35 years, about to own my own place, spent a great deal of energy already actively trying to take these bozos down, and I'll be damned if they are gonna make me RUN from them. Running solves nothing. The Amerikan Police State what it is, a body could spend a lot of time running... But if everybody just runs from it, who's gonna fix it? Who is gonna study and learn, educate others, speak the truth, work for change? You can either run from trouble or be an activist and confront it head on. And run to WHERE exactly? Fleeting thoughts about LEAVING COUNTRY, permanently... Venezuela's lookin' mighty good right about now... Far as taxes go, I don't pay 'em. Matter of fact I'm just a tad short of totally boycotting this ridiculous county altogether. Can't get away from property taxes or personal property taxes tho... But they are probably the lowest in the country... Nope, activism does not leave too many open doors for simply walking away to let someone else do it. And if more folks would practice activism, maybe things would get better faster...
Now you're talking! We came close to moving out of the country when Dubya "won" the election the second time around, but then we asked ourselves the same question, and concluded that we have a responsibility to stay and change things. It's definitely true that the behavior of the cops can vary greatly, depending on where you are. I'm near a college town where kids are constantly doing stupid things, so the cops are out in force, with road blocks, good thing I know where the back roads are. And what's with the freakin' sirens already? I'm out in the yard at night, and they gotta constantly drive by and "test" their noise toys for no reason, like it gives them a hard on or something.
You don't run, you learn the system and you take pains to guarrantee your rights are observed. That's how life was before Miranda, and it looks like we've forgotten those and believe the corporation/government will protect us. They won't First line of defense is individual and personal. In the sixties we fought and protested that there were rights for the individual. It's just recently that the populus has felt that security is more important. Hey buy your Starbucks and expect the other guy to respect your rights...it won't last. What you give up now you'll probably never retrieve, and your children will never receive the benefit of in their lifetime. They and their children will have to win them again, and Bin Laden and Al Qaeda didn't take them away. You did by indifference and the feeling that someone else would look after you.
A group of buddies of mine go to the Gauley River in WV every year to boat. I missed this year 'cause I started a new job, but I'm told the cops in that area are merciless, you best be driving the speed limit or else you will get pulled over and you will have your car searched. So now the town gets your speeding ticket fine, add to that the fine you get for the bag they found under your seat, and maybe a DUI, then there's the cost of the defense attorney who happens to be the Cheif's brother-in-law. I don't doubt there's a good-ol'-boy network greasing the wheels of the legal system, and lining the pockets of the people who are part of it. We go up to Northern New England back packing, and there's always tons of cops up there, in the small towns, waiting to bag you if you're not paying attention and you forget to slow down. Most foreigners I meet on the trail in the woods agree America is a police state, I'll just reiterate that it's too bad we don't seem capable of policing ourselves...
You want security or personal rights? You need to vote and make your voice heard. Mommy and Daddy aren't doing it anymore you are.
It is really unfortunate. I am an avid tourism supporter, as WV has no jobs, not many businesses, and LOTS of natural beauty, as well as being nearly the poorest state in the nation. 35% unemployment in this county (unofficially)-("They" give a figure of only 4%).... But unless and until the state cops can be controlled to act like HUMAN BEINGS with MORALS and HONOR, I would NOT recommend anybody coming here for vacations. I would prefer to see folks boycott the entire state until it hits them in the pocketbook so hard they HAVE to make some changes. There are other places to go white water rafting and camping! I found a blog the other day belonging to someone who came here for "Bridge Day" where folks bungie jump and parachute off the Gauly bridge once a year. They had been coming here for the event for years. The blogger was VERY ANGRY about the way they were treated by cops and other tourists this time around. No, my suggestion is if you are thinking of vacationing in WV, DON'T. But also make sure the GOVERNOR knows why...
Motherfucking retards. They're isn't a cure for stupidity, but there's always a price to pay for it, and it's usually the innocent that pay.
