I always think they should hook gym machines up to generators lol

Oh - yeh green eyes. I think that was just a good-eye day though...that pic's definitely not representative of my usual eyes, sadly. Lol

    Hmm, must stop lolling, lol.
    Lol.
    Hmph.

But just because it's not "your style" doesn't mean it's stupid or only for people with low self esteem and body issues. No one in this thread mentioned anything about YOU going to the gym, but you seem more than happy to make generalizations for everyone based on your personal preferences.

News flash, SE, your way is not always the only way and the only good way. Please stop insinuating that people who don't live life like you do are obviously missing out and doing it wrong. It's patronizing and really obnoxious to read your opinion in every thread presented as if it were law. Seriously.

SE, you are speaking dilusionally and in ideals. The world is not an ideal place. Many people go to the gym because it's convenient; gyms are usually open early in the morning and are compatible with people's day to day schedules. Not everyone can drop what they're doing with their life to live in the mountains and help the less fortunate to also help themselves. It's a great thing to give back to the community, but it's no realistic substitute for a gym and you know it.

This is completely ridiculous and even MORE patronizing than your previous posts about the gym in this thread. Obviously lifting weights has it's health benefits and it's own rewards or else, guess what, people wouldn't do it and it wouldn't work to help tone one's body and get in better shape.

Working out in ANY form is therapeutic for your mind and body, because it's doing something for yourself to better your life and give yourself a good start. Working out releases good endorphins and that's why it feels good and makes people happier, feel better about themselves, be more active and creative in general, etc.

I'd love to try that, to learn how to defend myself, but I don't like the idea of turning agression into violence :(

    Ahh well ^^

Amybird, I love your dreads :D

I see your point, but the fact is the lifting weights and running etc is conditioning my body, building up my muscles etc and the gym is my equivalent of a safe haven to take out frustration as I have said. We dont have such things like houses for the homeless here, its a very idealistic notion, but the reality is, it doesnt really happen over here.

I respect you dude, and value most of what you say, but on this occasion, I dont agree with your advice. Im not starting an argument, so im just gonna agree to disagree.

Lets get back to the sexy dreadies pics :)

Last weekend we got a cross-training machine that we're borrowing long-term from my in-laws. It sits 1 metre from the computer and has already been a blessing for me in the space of 5 days. Although I really love being outside and getting exercise in the fresh air, I have a shocking inability to make myself do ANYthing sometimes, no matter how much I want to, which just makes me feel even worse. So just being able to shift myself on to that thing for the odd 10 minutes, even if I still haven't made it out of my pyjamas, has made me feel so much more positive this week, and created enough physical sense of achievement to keep my spirits better. The machine doesn't do much else of any use...besides providing the kittens with a source of general wonder and puzzlement...but making me more able to get on with doing things seems to justify its otherwise pointlessness.

*tries to think of a snappy way to make this have anything to do with dreads* doh

im not really much of a fighter myself to be honest, I've been lucky enough to never have been in a real fight, and i dont really get people pick fights with me lol. I just liked the peace of mind that if it did happen i would stand a better chance, i thoroughly recommend it learning some sort of self defence :)

Haha cool ^^ I have CFS, so its hard for me to get uo and do things- but I have found that walking to uni and back, 30 mins a day both ways does do alot of good. I heard excercise makes endorphins lalalala and endorphines are good :D they put you in a better mood etc, chocolate them too xD

If the gym makes you feel secure and safe, then awesome. I guess its a comfort thing, knowing you're doing good for youself.. OH I got it!! Dreads/gym: going to the gym is doing good to you body but it isnt neeeeded, just feels good to do it :) Like palmrolling dreads and doing a little work now and again, it isnt neeeeded but it fells good to do it, and they look good after :)

I dunno what I'm on about xD

Think I've probably filled my quota now. However, if anyone happens to start a "How stupid have you ended up looking as a result of dread-kits?" thread I'll be there with plenty of ammo:p
