  8. Aren't you playing against tougher competitors this year, Irmi? Don't give up. The fact that you can even compete at all is impressive. I can't sink a shot in pool to save my life.

So... it's partly feels stupid because its so clearly the end of an era. That's my issue with certain fascinating time periods too :p Like with the 'taming' of the wild west, pushing the fullfillment of manifest destiny. Yet this peculiar circumstances fascinate and intrigue me to no end :) This includes of course the romanticised portrayals of the vigilante gunslingers in lawless territories, and also those lovely portrayals of opportunistic bounty hunters :grinning:
Naturally my interest in the american civil war focusses on the wild west and the impact on settlers. Although i fully understand the fascination for that war on itself as well. I for one am more interested in that time and circumstances in the american midwest, of which the civil war is 'only' one determining aspect.
Analog pistols and revolvers, and a real purpose to carry them :sunglasses: The peculiar combi of this new frontier with its iconic nature and original inhabitants, in some areas not only native americans but in others also spanish/mestizo, that had to be taken and occupied and could be more rapidly than ever before with the invention of the steam engine becoming mainstream. Ah yes, what a delicious clash of cultures, interests, nature and technology.. and with some terrible consequences as we all know. The bizon population decimated, the natives' way of life consciously raped. No need to feel ashamed for such a fascination AT ALL, certainly not if you intrinsically feel at odds with the atrocities.

    Communism, the true equalizer! :-D

What's the reason to skip the cheese as well if you don't aim to be vegan? Isn't limiting meat consumption easier when you still get some saturated fat from cheese etc. ?

Saturated fat is one of the enemy elements in my diet. That and cholesterol were both discussed in the seminars (there were 3, of which I attended 2). The aim isn't vegan as in I'm not going to preach to anyone. But I do have feelings around it. And of course the diet that was recommended does eliminate any cheese.

As for the sat. fat making it easier to limit meat consumption; I've found that you do get hungry if you deprive yourself of something. The easy/good way around that for me isn't cheese but rather these little purple potatoes...

I make two or three (they're tiny) and they equal probably one normal sized medium potato. They keep me from getting really hungry. That and I can eat vegetables all day without really adverse effects in terms of weight gain or calorie intake or fats or whatever. There's nothing to it.

Also, the dietitian giving the seminar told me when I asked what to snack on (I'm used to snacking about twice or three times between meals!) fruit is natures fast food. So I eat two pieces of fruit.

And with exercise several times a day, yesterday I lost two pounds! In one day! Which is pretty amazing...

So those are some things I do to keep from getting hungry instead of cheese; which I know may be part of the recommended diet for keto dieters or other diets.

Keto is a rather extreme opposite of going saturated fat free. I personally doubt either extreme is the solution. Saturated fat doesn't have to be unhealthy.
