i try to avoid HFCS, but i'm not so sure it's worse than sugar.
it is a monosaccharide, whereas table sugar is di-...maybe di- takes slightly more energy to metabolize.

i knew soy was somewhat controversial, but i was just reading more about it, pressed rat. i know this one mom in particular that loves to give her kids soy products because SHE is allergic to dairy. what are you thoughts on dairy?

MSG in EVERYTHING pisses me off.

i remember a comedian bitchign about the corn lobby. like who decided we would make things sweet with corn?!
(i know there is sweet corn, but it's not the same sweetness as sugar)

I think that was Bill Maher if I remember correctly. It could have been someone else that mentioned it, too, though.

My thoughts on dairy have sort of fluctuated over time. For a while I was very much against all dairy products. Now, not as much. I do use whole milk in my protein shakes everyday, and I also drink kefir. I do like it for its protein content and some of the good saturated fats it contains. I still think dairy products should be consumed in moderation, and that raw milk and raw milk products are really the only way to go. These, however, are hard to obtain for most people. But the thing is, most of the reason milk and dairy is so bad is because of the pasteurization process, which destroys a lot of the good enzymes and bacteria which are beneficial to one's health. Pasteurized milk is just loaded with dead bacteria, and all the good enzymes are destroyed, which is believed to be the reason so many people react poorly to dairy products -- esp. milk. However, if one must drink pasteurized milk, they are best off drinking whole milk.

The thing with milk is that it causes inflammation and contributes to a lot of mucous production. Studies have shown that a diet high in dairy poses an increased risk for diabetes and Crohn's disease, among other things.

So I am not totally against dairy, but its consumption should be limited, and it should be, if possible, consumed raw.

And yeah, MSG is a bad one, too, since it is an excitotoxin, which means it literally attacks the nervous system. The same can be said for artificial sweeteners like aspartame.

Some companies just like 'corn' in the name of the product.

Wilson had a line called Corn King that consisted of packaged meat products such as ham, hot dogs, and bacon. Not sure what that has to do with corn, other than using corn to feed the animals.

Here's an ad from a Pittsburgh newspaper. Don't know if Wilson and the Corn King line are still around. I think they were based in Oklahoma City, in the heart of corn country. People just can't get away from that 'corn' thing.

at some point i just have to say, "fuck it, i'm gonna eat that." i have to get calcium right? i drink milk on my cereal, and i have cheese on my sandwhich for lunch each day.

thanks for the response, PR. my frustration is at trying to eat healthy, and eat a lot because i'm underweight.

Not to mention other places in America that are not the US, which of course is where corn was created.

I think corn is a beautiful grass, although it's closest wild relative is more beautiful.
