The latest is Ukraine have declared a state of emergency tonight and conscription has started are all able bodied people to take up arms .

I'm not sure if sanctions will work .Possibly longer term when Ukraine has been taken over .

I don't see the US moving troops to our borders threatening to invade Canada or Mexico!

I, unfortunately, am in the same boat. I have no idea who to believe anymore … (basically regarding any important current event).
Every news source and every poster with a pre-convinced agenda gives us the slant that favors their view, without regard to its veracity.
We are in a very difficult time here. Who can we trust?

What happened almost 200 years ago can't be used to say that we're no better than Putin. For all its flaws the modern United States tries to be a benevolent world leader. Granted we do it from a position of strength, and corruption of those in power is a constant issue, but to compare us to Putin, who's big ambition is conquest, is out of line.

If is Putin is talking about using nuclear weapons he's fucking batshit crazy.

If he launches a cyber attack against the US infrastructure, we have the same capability to cripple them as well

This I have found this which brings things upto date this morning .

Its from Sky News which IMO has covered the Crisis better than the other UK media outlets who were concentrating on Boris Partygate

    What is happening this morning?
If you're just waking up, there's been a lot of movement overnight.

In the early hours of the morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had ordered a "specialised military operation" in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region.

Within minutes - at around 5am local time in Ukraine - multiple explosions were heard in the capital city of Kyiv.

Ukraine later said Russia had launched a "full-scale invasion of Ukraine" and a "war of aggression".

Explosions have been heard by Sky News in the cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv, to the north of Ukraine.

Air raid sirens are going off in the capital city of Kyiv and Ukraine's state emergency service has said its ammunition depot in Kyiv is on fire.

Meanwhile, shelling in the Lviv region - near the border with Poland - has been reported by the Ukraine emergency service.

The state border of Ukraine was attacked by troops from Russia and Belarus, Ukraine's border guards service said.

Border units, border patrols and checkpoints were targeted with artillery, heavy equipment and small arms, with attacks also taking place from Crimea, it said.

Ukraine has introduced martial law and is urging people to stay home as much as possible.

The West has responded by condemning Russia, with leaders meeting this morning to discuss further sanctions.

From what I can gather apart from some missile attacks on an airport near the Capital ,the escalation appears to be the South Easter Side ie. the Donbas area again .

This is were the best of the Ukrainian forces are as well .

From the reports so far it seems it's a slow and measured invasion, not a blitzkrieg. Bombs and missiles. It's as if Putin is testing the waters, seeing what kind of reaction he gets. I don't know if sanctions will do any good, especially with China responding by expanding imports from Russia, especially wheat. Stay tuned folks!

An update as where we are upto on a very dark day for the whole of Europe and the Ukraine

The explosion marks re where missile /artillery strikes have been witnessed and in most cases pictured.

According to Russian sources they have gained air supremacy as the Ukrainian Airforce was only small .This is evidenced with footage of Russian Helicopters in flight. No military fool would commit vulnerable military helicopters unless they had confidence in their air umbrella .

    My hope from here:

We can only hope that some of these 20, 30, 40, even 50 year old's, are enough 'aware of European history' to know what to expect of what's coming onto them. Films of civilians during your 'London Blitz', with "Keep Calm and Carry On" and Poland would be appropriate now.

But once the Internet and their cell phones go down, they're going to be 'babes-in-the-woods'.

Where's a Churchill now when they need one, perhaps Zelensky?

A link that was sent to me by a Russian friend of mine and Candy's .

It shows a downed Russian Military Helicopter by Stinger missiles

It looks like a KA52 type . Known in the West as an Alligator . Their equivalent of the US Apache

Apparently they're making use of the Stinger ground-to air items the US sent them. Keep us posted.
