I think so as there is a good road nearby which is essential for them to get lorried troops, supplies and equipment towards the Ukrainian capital .

I am expecting them to encircle the capital within about 12 hours from now

Russian forces have captured the Chernobyl nuclear power plant after a fierce battle, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office has said.

"It is impossible to say the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is safe after a totally pointless attack by the Russians," said Mykhailo Podolyak.

"This is one of the most serious threats in Europe today."

Ukraine's prime minister also said the Chernobyl area near Kyiv was now under the control of Russian troops.

Chernobyl would be the shortest, most direct route to the capital Kyiv for Russian forces.

I can identify the tank as being a T72 . These are not used by the Ukrainians . The Infantry Fighting Vehicle in the middle is a BTR 80. The one on the far right is a BMP3 . Again not a type used by the Ukrainians ( they use BMP2s)

 

You seem to be informed on tanks and weapons.....

 

I am a wargamer and collect model armies .

An area of interest is the Cold War.circa 1986 . These are far too modern for me

 

Unfortunately, military development has come a looooooooong way since '86 my friend. Was that the Irangate period ? It was in full Reaganism right ??
I'm going to be the devil's advocate here...who said that the world is a better place after '89, after the fall of the most obnoxious wall ever built ? These are 2 of the main types that will be in conflict



The above is the main Ukrainian tank.. The T64 BV ,a Soviet design going back to the mid 60s and first went into service around 1976 . The opticals would have been brought more upto date but still the same old design .

Below is the Russian T72B3 . Again a Soviet design going back to the mid 70s but updated . More than a match for the above due to updated optics and modern ammunition despite the tanks being similar looking



If the Ukrainians went toe to toe against the Russian tanks they will suffer dues to inferior equipment and ammo .

One also has to greatly sympathise with the civilian people

One cannot blame the populas for the actions of a tyrant
I recollection (somewhat aptly) a line/quote from the 1960's set film 'The Odessa file' - "Peoples are not evil, only individuals are evil" and it is the Head of the Russin state that should be held accountable for these atrocious actions
