Their good stuff is excellent and their bad stuff is really bad. Nothing in between. But they are still one of my favourite bands. I'd take them over say, Led Zeppelin any day. I would consider Pete more of a guitar anti-hero however.
pete townshend was a brilliant songwriter and guitarist in my opinion. he taught himself completely, too. I read somewere that they got into ego problems where both Daltrey and Townshed thought they were the star of the band cause daltrey was the singer but couldnt write and townshed was the songwriter but couldn't really sing. Thats what I read anyways.
Pinball Wizard is my favourite song. the first time i ever listened to them was the Almost Famous soundtrack, then i went and got their hits cd and tommy. my gma took Tommy away from my aunt when she was a teenager because of the song Fiddle About.
I love the who, a favorite of mine would have to be Pure & Easy. The who will reconvene in february with Oasis drummer Zak Starkey.
i have started listening to the who just this week, believe it or not....i bought Whos next and i'm loving it. I thought i should give them a chance, and i wasnt wrong any recomendations on what i should get next? I was planning to get Tommy next, i've seen the film and i liked it
The Who are amazing. I like how they sometimes jam in the middle of a song. The best songs would have to be Love Ain't For Keeping and Going Mobile.
Ditto Zeppelina...Quadrophenia (mentioned above) is an excellent suggestion...but I'd also suggest Live at Leeds...a killer album (who at their best imo) and it'll give you a great cross-section of their musical style and how it changed over the years
