That does sound like a wonderful idea. There's a machete here at work, yet I don't really have any reason to chop anything. Speakin' of work... off I go. It's a hot hot summer day... gonna go pressure wash some floors while listening to some King Crimson. (oh, the happiness)
The revolution is always happening. It's the revolution towards what is true. And anybody on the side of the truth has already won.
Oh, so maybe the U.S. would have done better by being a British colony? Or Brazil as a colony of Portugal? Or Haiti as a slave plantation of France? There is no reason to be romantic about revolutions. They are painful processes. And the new systems they put in place also require compromise. But to say systemic change is inherently tyrannical is the reactionary version of LSD-fuelled hippie utopian naivete. The world as a whole is neither better nor worse than it once was.
Positivists annoy me just as much as doomsayers. To the positivists: It's easy to sit in the comfort of our Western homes, in front of our latest computer technology and make sweeping generalizations about freedoms and human rights. It so happens that about 800 million people in the Third World would be happy to give up certain freedoms for a plate of food everyday. To the doomsayers: WWI & II? The Great Depression? The African Slave Trade? Heard any of it? Maybe not, because they are history.
Pfft. Keep drinking that koolaid. Humanity has never been free. And if you think people living in western society are free, you are right. They're free to do as they're told.
Pavel says we have too much freedom. Let's take a minute to analyze this. Over the past seven years we have seen habeus corpus and posse comitatus completely eviscerated. The feds can break into your house at anytime without you knowing and go through your belongings, WITHOUT A WARRANT. People who even question the government, such as myself, can be deemed domestic terrorists (.ie "enemy combatants") and flown to some secret prison overseas and tortured.... Should I go on??? So tell me, Pavel, since you're so damn smart.... what other freedoms should we eliminate??
you know, i just can't laugh at the doomsdayers anymore...its just so so bland now it used to be funny
