According to the article they did forensics in a New York crime lab. But they didn't specify on which one they did forensics to. This is good it will tell us a lot.

Here, Basically is what has happened.
25 years ago they found a tomb that had 10 coffins in it.
Among the names on the coffins were one 'Jesus son of Joseph' and another 'Mary' and another Mary.
There is also a 'Judah son of Jesus' in there too.

The DNA business was attempting to prove this was a family.
It turns out the DNA between the Jesus and the Mary is not related so the speculation there is that they are married.
The DNA is to compare body to body but not for any special characteristics.

    The problem:
Jesus, Mary and Joseph happen to be three of the most popular names of that time.
In fact, they already have several 'Jesus son of Josephs' already and Marys are everywhere. (or variations of these names)

    The other problem:
This is a fairly expensive family tomb type situation in Jerusalem. This doesnt square with Jesus and his family. If you do go ahead and suggest that maybe they moved there and became wealthier ok.. but then thats a pretty bad story in light of the Jesus-is-dead phenominon going on at the time.

    Good question #1:
The whole thing sorta comes down to some 'statistics' and what they try and do is say 'whats the mathematical probability of having two marys and a jesus in the same family.

    Good question #2:
Being that 'Jesus Bones' has been the sort of 'Holy Grail' (no pun intended) of antichristians for so many years that its a fair question to ask if this is a little 'too convenient'.
You dont presume that either but its worth asking as they did with the James Ossuary last year.

    I will definately be watching.
This time of year (before Easter) we get the usual onslaught of 'historical jesus' stories.
This is their biggest effort yet.

I responded to your post # 8 in this thread...the concept of "Christianity as we know it would be effectively over and done" seemed like a good place to start a discussion.

It does needs to be in a different thread, I agree. Therefore, I'll start a new one.

You haven't been keeping up with the news lately. They HAVE found the missing link, the one you Xtians proudly say will never be found. The link that shows when FISH (like jesus!) learned to walk on land.

They've also found several more primate missing links in the last few years. You know the OTHER one you Xtians claim will never be found. The one ancestor between humans and other primates.

Jesus is a fish...who learned how to become something more...by visiting India...and hanging out with the Buddhists...He tried to teach the Jews how to find inner peace, and they (along with the Romans) murdered him to shut him up. It's politics then, it's politics today. Whatever serves the masters' need is what the people are taught to believe.

View this image of Jesus as a fish before he evolved into a Buddha.

Yes folks, YOU TOO can become a Buddha. That is Christ's real message. Don't let the church bamboozle you. You don't need them nor that book they keep flogging...

Here's one of the coffins. I notice there are no stars of david on it. Did they not use them back then, or was this a coffin of a jew who was no longer a jew?

The symbols inside the circle do have six sides, but I'm not familiar with that symbol.

Hopefully he'll explore that issue in the docu.

Why wouldn't his family prosper? If he was a decent carpenter he should've made a decent living. And who's to say that after his death, there weren't lots of sympathizers who helped out the family, his wife & kids. Isn't that the Xtian thing to do? (It's also the jewish thing to do, but that's another story).

Probably his supporters all chipped in for a decent burial site & coffins. Perhaps long after his death.

then again by the time his mother and wife died, perhaps they came to realize how rich they could get by selling his story, preaching about him, developing & exaggerating his legend for profit. That IS what happened, isn't it?

A couple of times, I've submitted a realistic and nonsensational argument here for the possibility of Jesus having been married...it got either blasted or ignored.

Honestly, it's a 600 to 1 chance that they've found the body of Jesus Christ and they think they've got a story?!

As Ikdenkhetniet posted: DNA would prove a family connection, but family plots and tombs have been common for thousands of years. My fathers family has a large plot in the old home town. Full now, didn't plan on so many grandkids.
The De Vinci code, was a great book and movie, gave a person a lot to think about.
But you find it in the fiction area of your book store.
Now for a touch of humor.... We know that Jesus was Jew...
    1. He went into the family business
    2. Lived with his parents even after he was a grown man.
    3. Believed his mother was a virgin
    4. His mother thought he was god.

If the crucifixion were just a myth, why have they found the remains of first century christian churches around Jerusalem that were built in the shape of a cross. No doubt some of the members of these churches would of been at the crucifixion, or even close realatives of theirs would of been.

The Bible is often used by scholars when doing research on ancient Middle Eastern studies, and the reason for this, is because of it's accuracy.

It's hard to find accuracy in a metaphor, but yes... it is indeed based on real events.

Church's could have easily been built in the shape of a cross to symbolize the injustice of the crucifixion method (many christians were crucified, after all... not just the Jesus).
