Most certainly. Bad things have been happening for all of time, but I think take 100 years ago, you weren't constantly hearing about for example kids going missing so you still let your kids go out to play. I think we are over afraid, there is no doubt. The media plays such a large part in our lives now a days, that it does influence. The example of women being terrified to go out at night or taught that they shouldn't be out alone, or can't defend themselves, becuase they're going to get mugged or beaten or raped, has always drove me nuts, but the media has taught us that, even though it's a load of crap. People here one story and then think that will always happen. One story of a women being out at night and being raped and then all of a sudden it's made out to be like that will always happen. It's the same with any story, we blow it out of proportion. Like that girl who went missing, madeleine, I'm still hearing news about her, and it's stories like that that make parents not ever want to let their kids out of their sight, but it's blind fear, and it's not even close to being rational, but I guess if you hear anything enough times, you'll start to believe it.

To be honest England is a fucking tit. I thought he(presumably) was JUST a thick ****, but it's apparent now that he's a nasty little smear of excrement. I agree that Avion isn't a typical caucasian name. However, that doesn't mean you can just chalk any crime up to someone being black. Race has nothing to do with it, unless you want to get into the whole topic of how society in the America has been setup so black youth aren't exactly encouraged to not lead a life of crime.

England has said many things to make people get the impression that he is racist before, this is just the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back" in my opinion.

 

I remember back in the early 80's near the hospital where my doctor was located, there was this bar. It was a real dive. It was about 2 city blocks from the hospital.
One weekend we went down there and I noticed the bar was shut down. I asked my mom and she said there was a horrible fight at the bar and a pregnant woman had been dragged out into the streets, forced to eat glass, and then they cut her breasts off her.

That was before the Super Nintendo was even invented (to give perspective).

Things like that are rare, but they do happen. And I don't think it has anything to do with the culture we are now all brought up in.


And I do think 24 hour news reporting does tend to make everyone a bit more fearful of a growing crime rate. It also desensationalizes true tragedy. I remember when stories used to come on the news that were so horrible and they'd always say first "send the kids out of the room if you want to watch this". I honestly don't remember the last time I heard a news program say that now.

Well, I've never heard the term African-English or even African-British. Personally I think it's bloody stupid - this person may never have even been anywhere near africa and you're calling them African? That's like calling me German-english because the Saxons came from germany (or thereabouts).
No black person that I know has ever been offended by me calling them black; this includes people I don't know so well as well as my friends.
