Sure! if someone can fit in to an imaginary box, technically he is fitting in to something that isnt real that isnt a living person.

... that explains why i never had a problem fitting in lol.

haha does everyone realize how funny this quote is?
This means that EVERYONE shouldn't have problems fitting in to ANY group as long as ANY group consists of real people, all unreal things, and unreal people. ...So I can fit in to the group of an inanimate object such as an "imaginary stick".

It's not hard to fit in, or not fit in.

People make a huge deal out of shit that is simple.

A combination of generalizing and namecalling doesn't make you smart. Some adults stay in a certain stages for a veryyy long time PAST puberty, it does not make them idiots. I understand what you are trying to say though, that people should know that BEING their self is the best way to go about fitting in by hitting puberty.

First part about the hipsters was a joke.

For the most part people who try to fit in or try to not fit in are pretty lost, the word idiot was pretty strong for this topic but it was just to get a point across.

Thanks for replying, but I disagree with you completely.

    This is why:

Someones identity can be constructed and influenced by other groups of people with similar interests. This automatically makes the person fit in to that group. So in this case, it does not mean they those people are lost just because they enjoy being part of group with similar interests that they fit into.

Talking about the 'People that don't try to fit in' in my opinion, is impossible. Because if there is a group of people where each person in the group tries to not-fit-in, then that means that every person in that group actually ends up fitting in to the group of "not trying to fit in".

Therefore, my original post remains correct, in my opinion. Because, like i said by trying to be 'different' you end up being the same. In your case trying to be different means trying to 'not-fit-in' to a particular group. Obviously, there are many people that try to 'not-fit-in' because they want to be 'different'. So, by trying to 'not fit in', you end up fitting in to the group of people that are trying to be 'not-fit-in' therefore you end up being the same as the people that ARE fitting in to a particular group.

The part in bold is hipsters.

I'm talking about how people who try to fit in just for the sake of fitting in, compromising their own interests, thats retarded.

Sure fitting in with people is great, i dont want to chill with people that i hate, so i chill with people with similar interests, but fitting in just for the sake of it is what i am talking about. Fitting in should be a coincidence, not really a goal.

I like that! I think I kind of agree with you, but know this....

It is POSSIBLE for you to have a GOAL of finding a group of people that have similar interests as yourself. This can be done WITHOUT compromising your interests.

By all means, compromising your interests to try and fit in to a group kind of contradicts the whole point of fitting in, in the first place. B/c if you are trying to fit in to a group that has different interest then yourself than you are not really 'fitting in'. People do this I guess to force their identity... which is bad.

I've never went through those stages, I've always been me. I think it was cuz my parents always let me be me. I feel like I'm changing now since I'm starting to get IT. The changes are obvious subjective and objective, you can tell cuz I smile and laugh at everything.

I don't know, I just never tried to be different- don't like the attention. But in saying that I always was a little, and got bullied for it a lot.

I think I just come from a pretty hostile environment, lot's of idiots and skinheads. I never witnessed anyone trying to be different when growing up, it was their way or no way at all.

It's only now that people are actually starting to think i'm 'cool', if there's even such a thing. The same people who gave me grief are like trying to kiss my ass- so I can see how maybe in this day and age this 'differen't' thing might stick.

    I basically had this

Teenage years - isolated for being a 'faggot'
Later teenage years - still a dicker
Present day - Idiots trying to level with me

I think even in as little as 5 years EVERYTHING has changed. Now we have emo's and goths and whatever else in schools and people think they are cool. Back 10 years ago it wasn't a much different dynamic. But then maybe the UK and America are different.

Interesting idea though, I don't disagree- just respectfully giving my account on a pretty horrible schooling experience. I agree you do think 'fuck it' by the age we are at now though :p

I really don't care now. I tried to be different when I was younger. Up until recently, I was trying to be normal. Now I just want to be me. I'm tired of being lost. I'm 18 now, at that point I feel, where, I really need to be able to count on myself, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. And I can't do that if I've never experienced being an individual and always just tried to fit into the world a certain way, as a rebel or as a celebrity. When it's just me, myself, and I, I suffer for it. Because I have feelings and needs that I don't understand or know how to approach. And I'm a very emotional person, so it gets painful and depressing.

    Eh. >_<

People who try too hard to be different are hilarious. But there's some people in this world that are awkward, strange and eccentric all on their own... and those are usually the people I happen to gravitate toward.

It does seem like a lot of people try too hard to conform though, too... but I think in the end you really can't change who you are.
