Did anyone hear anything more from the people at BDs about people with two day tickets being allowed to camp? I don't see why it would be a problem, unless there really isn't the capacity. They wouldn't be losing out on any morning, coz two day tickets are more expensive than a weekend camping ticket!

At the moment, camping in Escot Park is for weekend ticket holders only... as that is all they have room for... but hopefully there might be an extra field for day ticket holders but this wont be known until the begining of August, so as soon as it is comfirmed i will let ya all know

It's more the fact that it went up that concerned me. The original idea of Greenblade Fayre, that got cancelled was 30 quid. The first BD was about 55, which wasn't that bad, but now it's up to 65, add another tenner for booking fee and P&P and it's not looking so cheap for the poorest of students. I'm still going to carry on buying tickets because I love the festival, but I wouldn't want to see it go up by a tenner each year like Glastonbury does. I remember that the Levellers were at the forefront of the free festival scene about 15 years ago. They're still the best band in the world in my opinion, but it'd be nice to see them bring some of that ethic to BD. It has an amazing spirit, and a wonderful philosophy, I just want to see it keep that. Hiking the price each year, and making it a Middle Class only zone would be a quick way to destroy that....

Says you who got in for free! Giles man, I'd be the first person to defend Glastonbury, I love it, but the money is an issue. It goes up every year without fail, I'm not looking forward to seeing how expensive it is in ten years. It's a worry. I'd still go, and I'd still buy a ticket, it gives a lot to worthy causes, and is one of the best parties of the year, but I know a lot of people who'd love to be there but can't afford it. Some of the nicest people in the country are the traveller types who don't always have a lot of money, people living on the road, living off the land. If you price them out, then you lose the festival's soul. That's all I'm saying.

A lot of the free festivals have disappeared, or gone very far underground. Another thing that we could lay at Thatcher's door. If I ever get enough money together by making it as a writer, then I'm planning to buy up a large plot of cheap land, let people keep it as a commune, and hold free festivals there. Would need to get some artist/poet/band contacts who'd be prepared to perform for free, but I think it'd be cool....

Just out of interest Gill, I take it you're one of the festival organisers, what kind of things do you do for it? Oh, and what brought you to our little hippy community here?

I got in for free Sal because myself and claire were guests of madagascar institute for ferrying 15 of their crew and all their metal working gear and living stuff not to mention a foundry and iron girders over to glastonbury and the taking them back to oxford and then the remainder of them back to london after the gig. Get your story straight Sal.

and sal ... Stop moaning about the price for christs sake .. in tens years it will probably be in line with inflation .. the traveller types .. tell me what you know about them and the experience you have of them?

Its not a case of pricing people out but a case of so many people wanting to attend because its the worlds biggest festival of its kind.

The organisers do a FUCKING wonderful job as it is and the likes of yourself whinging about the price etc don't consider the logistics that have to go into this kind of thing.

You are an intelligent guy Sal and I don't understand why you insist going on and on about something which has to be so apparent considering you were there this year.

I really dont think the price is gonna go up every year, there not in for the money, as i am sure you know.... the ticket prices do vary though, if you had booked your ticket in the first month or two then it would have only been £60.00 and i know the booking form says 10% postage and package charge, which should be @ a tenner, but they really only charge you £2.00..(please check your statements) If this was different if you please let me know, n ill look into it...

Levellers still do play at free festivals, last being about 3 weeks ago in Stamford, Lincs.. it was excellent, you have never seen so many drunk teenagers in your life:rolleyes: .

Calm down Giles, there's no point getting riled up over it. It's a rational argument, and a concern that I'm voicing, one which a lot of people clearly have voiced. Yes I was there, because I have money. Like I said, I don't agree with fence jumping per se, not when the organisers go to so much trouble to lay on a great party, and when some of the money goes to such great causes, so I'll continue to buy tickets. My concerns are for people who don't have that kind of money. I met a homeless man at Liverpool St on the way back from Glastonbury. I bought him some food and sat down with him for a while, he told me how he'd been to Glasto years ago and had loved it. I doubt he'd be able to afford it these days. I never once said it was a case of princing people out. I think Michael Eavis and the other organisers are great people. In fact one of my brother's friends from Cambridge is an organiser for the festival. But I do think that it is an unfortunate side-effect of a rise in prices. For your information I grew up amongst the New Agers, but there's no need to get patronising about it. You know me well enough to know that I don't pick arguments out of thin air, I wouldn't make one if I didn't think I'd considered a broad range of opinions and factors. That's the sociologist in me. If you choose to write it off as moaning that's your business, but I'd call it voicing a genuine concern for those who don't have all that much money, and yes, I know a lot of them....

And lighten up man, it was a joke. Sorry if I've touched a raw nerve with the pricing issue. I do believe I'm not persistently moaning about it, this is actually the first time I've personally mentioned it to my knowledge. But it does need mentioning. I've had far more vitriolic attacks against my arguments when I was speaking out against the war. Should I have shut up and accepted that? Not in quite the same league I know, but the principle remains the same, if you really care about something, really believe in something, you won't stop speaking out about it....

    Hi Gill,
I shopped around quite a bit to get a ticket way before the line-up was even announced. There was nothing for less that £70. I bought some of the first tickets too.
I still think £70 is OK, just was a bit of a shock 'cos it was advertised as different on the website.

Mm thats quite strange as if you got them from 'On The Fiddle' (Levellers fan club) before the 19th march then they were only £60 each and then £65 after that.... where did you get your ticket from if you dont mind me asking
