wow, i never realized that he didnt direct nightmare, but i guess the whole thing was pretty much his creation...brilliant none the less

watch movies from all of these directors and you'll see my point
First of.. I think you mean Orson Welles, second.. is not an argument.. please elaborate on why you think Tim Burton doesn't even belong in your top 15 list, since I don't have time to watch all the movies or all the 15 people mentioned above. And just a quick question.. which Burton movies did you see? And last but not least.. you forgot Kevin Smith in your list
Those are indeed good directors, but here it's not a matter of who's the best but who's your favorite, you just give your personal opinion and ot everyone has to share it - To me, if we have to talk in terms of "who's the best", I'd say maybe Stanley Kubrick, but then again, people have different tastes... and you gotta be tolerant... Tim Burton is a genius, and maybe you don't like him, but you have to admit he's a genius anyways.
very true.. but I think we are referring here to Ed Wood as the director, not the movie And indeed... this thread is about favorites. For me it's like music, you might not like classic music but that doesn't mean that you can't understand that Vivaldi was a genius.. something like that. Wether you like to listen to it or not, is a whole different subject.
WELL, while there are indeed some good directors on there, you can't really argue that someone like John Hughes is more innovative than Tim Burton...in fact, he made some average 80's movies, but he's not that great in my opinion...his movies don't age that well...and well, I hate tarrantino, but thats a different story for a different thread....

And just a quick question.. which Burton movies did you see? And last but not least.. you forgot Kevin Smith in your list
the only tim burton i liked was Ed Wood.. i saw Gilbert Grape and i thought it had virtually nothing to say and lacked a realistic understanding of human nature.. the directors that i listed (in my opinion) all posess those qualities
eh.. you mean "What's eating Gilbert Grape?".. Although I really like that movie (and I usually don't like anything with Dicaprio in it, I know, prejudice), it's based on a Peter Hedges novell and directed by Lasse Hallström.. I pretty sure Burton had nothing to do with it. I could go into further discussion as to why I think that movie does have a lot of qualities, especially when it comes down to understandings of human nature, but since I'm not sure we're even talking about the same movie and/or this is majorly offtopic, I'll leave it. When it comes to Burton's, I think I prefer Edward Sciccorhands over Ed Wood. It's a typically dark fairy tale that touches a lot of social subjects, like fear of being different, alienation, sheltered sub-urban life etc etc. But that's just a matter of personal taste I guess.
me personally: you didn't offend me.. everyone is entitled to their own taste right? And you did list some pretty good directors!
