Tipping At Bars

A boycott would just get unneeded people fired. I know it's hard to wrap your head around it but wait staff are happy for the most part with this system because people do tip (usually enough to pay the bills)

The real cheap ass mofos are the people who give minimum, non-sufficient wages, and expect ALREADY paying customers to make up for it.

I hope people understood that this wasn't serious.

Like I said the majority has to want it (and then together commit to such a thing). I understand this is not the case because the current practice is working good enough. Well, for most. I reckon it all depends where you work. Sure, the ones in the touristy areas make good bucks... but are they the best example?

Apparently he respects hard-working people in the service industry (which is totally fine), and appreciates what they do (bring him his beer), but has no problem showing contempt for struggling people who also don't have much choice, and go for other types of service (military or police, for example).
So vocal about those, always.
And I realize that was off-topic, but whatevs.

They do bring him his food and alcohol, so it's cool.

As I Said Before If I receive good service I sometimes tip to show appreciation for that service
But to have to pay a portion of the servers wages it becomes no longer a tip ???

Yes, a tip is voluntary, and customers shouldn't be the ones who are responsible for securing a wage.
I think most of us agree on that, but the system is deeply flawed.

 

the bar/restaurant owners aren't going to cut into their profits to pay the staff higher. the customer will pay the wait staff, one way or the other, whether it's through tips or higher food prices. so it really doesn't make much difference to me.

most tipped employees end up making way more than minimum wage, so i assume they are happier being tipped than they would be being paid minimum wage.

either way, punishing the people who have these jobs doesn't seem like the best way to make the point that you disagree with the current system.

Indeed, and why should they? After all 3 generations back they paid people 2 dollars an hour as well Or a day!

 

Undies pretty much hit the nail on the head. An increase in wages for restaurant/bar employees would translate to higher costs for the customers. So instead of paying $7-8 for a beer, I would be spending $9-10. I would rather that money go directly to the employees without being taxed. And noboby is getting paid $2 an hour. Obviously anything less than minimum wage would be illegal.

 

$7-$8 for a beer? Well you do like your posh stuff in wine glasses.
But I don't remember ever paying more than $5.
