I always found it funny that many Americans couldn't differentiate between different British accents - someone from the west country sounds like a yokel to us, people from the north all sound working class and there's that London ghetto speak that's growing in popularity. There's only the BBC / home counties accent that actually sounds refined and educated, but not many people speak like that... and of course many of those that do are neither refined nor intelligent, just priveleged.
well, there's a lot more subtlety in the range of american accents than even you know. so i guess it would be funny if you're really arid in your sense of humor. it also depends on the voice, i think. dave's got a texas oilfield accent. but he sounds really beautiful. or like sam elliot, classic cowboy voice. but if you ever watch professional bull riding, which is do, i LOVE watching a cowboy get stomped, those guys all sound really nasal. probably due to their nuts being crushed into their abdomens a couple times a night.
HELL FUCKING YEAH!! I'm in herts. Oh yeah, and I'm priveleged. This place is very chavvy though. I'm surprised we managed to get on with it. Heck, I'm surprised I'm not so chavy myself.
I dislike whiney Valley Girl accents, like totally. Any whiney accents for that matter. But I like the range of Southern accents....
Chavs are the root of soul destruction. I doubt they exist in America. They should count themselves lucky, because the amount of shit a hell of a lot of us who aren't chavs have to put up with in the UK really does take the piss!
actually, they're all over the place here. we just have several other names for them. i have a couple friends, you know...one owns her own nail salon. she does the longest, prettiest fake nails with all kinds of painting all over them. she's cool, though. i just don't understand why she'll only date mexicans. i mean, throw a puerto rican or cuban in there some time.
I'm with you there Sal, was just thinking of the song Valley Girl by Zappa What gets me is a lot of young women I've overheard down here sound just like Valley Girls as well! Maybe it's watching all those episodes of OC/90122(?)/etc etc that have turned them into pretty little airheads. I also like the Southern accent, they also seem to be more polite in an old-fashioned way down there.
People Here say it Like "Ruff" Something Like that... Doesn't Have the 'oo' Sound... Maybe that's just Here though...
here in canada we use the 'oo' sounds... like route is "root" instead of "rowt", roof is "roouf" instead of "ruff"...
