    • 1793 1st hot-air balloon flight in the US lifts off in Philadelphia, piloted by Jean Pierre Blanchard
    [IMG]

The first manned flight of a balloon in America occurred.
It was a hydrogen gas balloon piloted by the same Frenchman who was the first to cross the English Channel, Jean-Pierre Blanchard.
This flight ascended from a prison yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and landed in Gloucester county, New Jersey.
This flight, observed by President George Washington, spurred interest in ballooning in the United States. Blanchard returned to Europe and, with his wife, Marie, who had also learned to fly balloons, performed many other exhibitions.
Blanchard suffered a heart attack on a flight over The Hague in February 1808 and fell more than 50 feet; he never recovered from the fall.

63 rebels were publicly beheaded in the squares of eight Saudi cities (Buraidah, Dammam, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, Abha, Ha'il and Tabuk). • 69 Roman emperor Galba adopts Marcus Piso Licinianus as Caesar
Rather than leaving behind a lasting legacy, Galba is probably best known today for spearheading the turbulent spell in Roman history known as the Year of the Four Emperors, in which four emperors ruled in quick secession throughout the year of 69 A.D.
They were Galba, followed by Otho, Vitellius and Vespasian.
