If you really want your neighborhoods to develop than forget the Fed, and the priviledges of the few. You sound like you want to legislate fitness.

Perhaps you want to deregulate, and and force a whole new form of fitness on our youth. I would understand that...infact I've seen that coming. You folks probably have your companies in the wings to take over where the schools had to cut PE, now we'll have to pay for it.

Parents have tons of control. It is a matter of them choosing to use it. If parents go to their school board and push for more PE they will get more PE in schools. I have seen it happen.

How can they do that when most poor school districts have cut PE entirely because of No Child Left Behind.

School fund raisers petition the state funding comities, apply for federal grants, there are so many things that can be done but nobody wants to take the time to do them. I live in Arizona when I was little all the playground equipments was metal so when it got hot we could use any of it. The parents of the school got together and did a city wide fund raiser and got all the money needed plus some. It takes time and energy. Also if the school can't afford it start after school activity programs like track, or soccer, if its hot find indoor activities to do like basketball. I hate when parents make excuses about things when they haven't done anything to try and change them

If anything I'd be a grandparent. I'am only posting here because since GW started his no child left behind crud, PE and music have been sacrificed by the local school boards Perhaps you'd like fund his program, so that the schools could go on as they have..

I live where it's hot too, Arizona isn't the only place. And my communities are faced with aging community pools, they can't upgrade them under current codes and no one gives them a break like we do our trade partners, even though that would lead to healthier children.

The folks here have done things, they held fund raiser after fund raiser. The kids have washed cars...how do they prove to the government that they really value their pool?

I never said I agreed with his program. I am saying it's a parents responsibility too look out for there children and fight on their behalf. I am a musician I sing, play piano and violin, non of witch I learned in public school. Like I said before the government is not to blame for everything. Parents have a responsibility to their children. Also the PE and Music being cut out of school started before GW was president. It has been going on for a while. (I am in no was defending the stupid president).

No need to be flippant I was just giving an example of what happened at my school I know Arizona is not the only hot place. You are talking about something different all together when you are talking city government versus a school government. Go to the city council they are the ones that make those decisions. Get people to sign petitions to fight government you have to know how it works and what steps to take to get things done.

Two of our local pools face an end. Developers want the property We have triple digits three to four months out of the year. We are being told that a simple pool will cost in excess of 1.4 million, it only cost the community a couple of days with backhoes and and some donated concrete, 15 years ago. Now the kids no matter how many car washes or what they do can't meet the code. Tell us the kids are fat, they are willing, what about the real estate magnates...they seem way fat to me.

The land was donated to the city for a pool, and the community built the pool, now there are contractors telling us in order to meet code it will cost a million and a half no matter the donated labor. They want the property. And they will get it like Bush and company get the oil in Iraq, because the little man can't work and support his family and fight the fat cats. But you can't stop us from complaining about it. Maybe you can, but some of us will try and tell the story.

No excuses, an explanation as to how money buys influence.

It shouldn't cost a million dollars. If the land was donated to the city I would see if there where stipulations. Most of the time when land is donated like that the city can't do anything with it but what the land was donated for.

But ya go a head a bitch about the situation like thats going to help. If you want things to change you have to stand up and fight for it.

The pools have been there for 20 years. If they can't bring the pool up to code, they can't maintain it. I am not bitching, neither is the community they are and have been fighting for a place where their kids could cool off and remain active, but the real estate mavens have something else in mind. The City holds title they can do what they want if the community can't come up with l.5 mil.

You go ahead and tell us our kids are fat misfits...I'd like to give credit where credit is due.

The government is to blame when what they mandate prohibits what would best benefit the community.

Tell me our kids are fat, but then close our PE programs and summer community pools. Perhaps you'd like to take the kids out to exercise in the summer?

It's so easy to pass the blame. I do exercise all year long when my niece is with me we go play and when it's hot outside we play in the sprinklers in the yard or go to the pool. Gardener do you have any kids or grandkids?

They are all factors ppl, I've said it b4, post # 7.
The gov. is to blame for funding cuts for pools, PE and rec. programs.
Food industry and marketing agents take some blame.
So does car culture and the developers behind it.
Affects of growth hormones and reduced soil nutrition on the food chain.
    Labour reducing technologies.
And so do parents, don't get me started on this one but I've seen too much that I can’t say parents are blameless.

With all of these effects is it no wonder that the rise in obesity rates is so significant.

    They are all adults now.

I get tired of dumb shits telling everyone parents are at fault for their children being out of shape when the fat cats and politicians cut PE and close parks. Sure rich kids can play LaCrosse and Polo, they have pools and ponies at home.
