Who sounds anything like Tool? I've never heard anything like them.

thanks to Hipforums I know about lightning bolt... and I think they are awesome. I work out to that shit all the time, even fall asleep to it, it's great. Black Dice is awesome too.

Some standard stupid mistakes are made in this thread. When talking about music 'emo' has of course nothing to do with kids cutting in themselves. Also, hippies can't listen to dark and dreary music? You're stupid.
If you strongly dislike emo and/or Tool (I am kind of indifferent to Tool myself) why immediately project your biased vision of the music on to their fans? Oh right, because everybody does it... Really gets old though. If it wasn't for all the negative attention on indie, alternative, emo and other in my opinion crap genres I wouldn't notice half of those bands. Instead I keep running into the 100th cutting joke about emo music.

Yeah I would not call Tool progressive, but not because I think they lack the talent, simply because I don't think they are progressive rock. They are something else, and to be honest I don't think there's a name for what they are. I would be more comfortable putting them under "psychedelic rock", or some subset of that.

Relayer, check out tool's song Third Eye and if you think it's complete crap then I know it's an unbridgeable difference

(Not on youtube, you need mad mp3 strong bass etc)

 

If your idea of prog is limited to Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant and all that sort of shite, then Tool are not prog.
