that was not bashing. why do you feel bashed? i was making an observation, wasn't trying to hurt anyone. I tell other Christians to get thier acts together too, you know, and i take constuctive criticism from them as well. Aren't we hear to challenge eachother? i was just waiting for your point.
That is all a matter of opinion. And you show obvious bias towards believers of your faith. Darrell has gotten lots of good rep from me for his well thought-out posts! What I see from these posts is a passionate 15 year old and a 49 year old who's managed to combine passion with logic, wisdom, and respect. That's not to say there isn't anything to be learned from teenagers. If some adults took even an ounce of their passion, maybe we would have a much more caring world!
Lots of people seem really spun out by the protests outside of Terri Shivao's Hotspice. The posts on MSN Fray seem bitter, angry, malovent. I don't know if these protesters are truly representative of Christians though. Like anyone else, Christians come in all types.
I do. I believe that the protesters are in the right. You just don't know the facts behind WHY they are protesting.
When I was a younger man, I had more patience with these christian "witnesses", after all I was one once. Now, with the political and social climate as it is, and the 'christian right' pushing their will in our faces, in our bedrooms and in our hospitals, I feel the need to stop being "nice" about it and start pushing back. Perhaps individual christians such as these young people seem harmless, but put them all together and you have a mob. And it's that cultish mob mentality that needs to be challanged. Their belief as kind as it seems on the surface, is dangerous. History proves it. If letting them know I'm insulted by their belief that I need "saving" and my morals are evil, is BASHING,- then I'm gonna bash away. I'm sure the REAL Jesus was accused of bashing the dogmas of Judism.
I'm not a Christian-Basher, I was raised Roman Catholic, so I can understand where you guys are coming from. But I really think that Catholic/Christian ideals are really just an ancient mythology that has been bastardized by popularity and economics. I don't believe that God ever really existed, but I do believe that Jesus did. And his message was a very peaceful, pacifistic message. Which I is why I'm disheartened by the Church. I don't think Jesus wanted the Church like this. I think he would not wanted any pompous glory, or celibate followers. I think he wanted us to live freely, but still be good to each other. But how are his followers now? The church has split in half, founded many protestant factions, and have disheartened many. What kind of church is that? The church that was founded created so many non-Jesus ideals that many people have become upset. I follow Jesus in my own way. I understand what he says as much as I understand other prophets, poets, or songwriters.
because it's so ridiculous and responsible for a lot of problems that individual people and societies have. repression, suppression, fear and dominance. blind faith is just an excuse to not ask questions or face the possability that your existance is just that; your existance. and when you die, everything that makes you you might just end with no impact on anything. it's a freaky thing to acknowledge especailly if or when it presents itself to your face. not to mention the fact that most of the rules that christians follow (or pretend to follow) today come from tyrannous governments attempting to scare their people into submisson. blah blah blah that's all general as hell but i'm sorry, i don't feel like typing out a whole organized rant. the topic is so trite. i enjoy attacking christians because i have no respect for people who follow this path what-so-ever and consider them fine venting tools.
I agree that the church has become lazy...these are the last days and God said that many of us would fall away. We are not living up to our calling, and this is a really bad witness to the world!! But we still know what we should be doing. And there are many that do follow Christ with thier whole heart. But what a difference the Christians of the world could make if we could only get it together. We are not perfect, and we all fall short of God's glory. Christian or not. The difference would be that Christians recognize thier need for a saviour because of our brokeness and sinful nature, and we put our trust in Jesus and His amazing love, and what he did for us while he was here on Earth. one other thing i would like to say is that we can't pick and choose what we want to believe from Jesus' teachings. It's all or nothing. So, Jesus has told us that there is indeed a God, His father, our Father, our Creator! Why would you believe his peaceful, pacifistic teachings but not the teachings of God's existence?? All of the things you hold dear that Jesus taught are FROM God, because Jesus IS God, He said so himself, when he said "I and the Father are One" as well as numerous other scriptures suggesting His Deity.
No big surprise. picking on the Christians has been going on since Christ came to earth and people started following His teachings. And it's not about to stop, it will only get worse. God told us this would happen~ that we would be persecuted for His name's sake. It only teaches us to grow stronger, so thanks.
excuse me, i don't mean to be rude or belittle people's beliefs, christ is a-ok by me..... but how come christians can't accept how ugly their faith's past is? after jesus died it went downhill continuously until somewhat recently some people are starting to seem to be more on the right track, yet others (jerry fallwell and company) seem to become more and more perverse as time goes by. christians have always been picked on? maybe at some times, in some places this is true. but what about the crusades? the inquisition? the great schism? the reformation and all the troubles it brought? what about bloody persecution of ANY non-christian beliefs (america is a PERFECT example of this - almost all pre-columbian religions have been destroyed or incorporated jesus so that maybe the church would back off a bit), what about persecution of JEWS AND MUSLIMS, the people that by all rights should stand side by side with christians as followers of the god of abraham? islam is in a worse place than christianity right now, but in their greatest age they promoted freedom of religion before any other major western cultures would. all the witches burned at the stake, all the slavery, war, oppression, all in the name of "jesus." is this what he stood for? of course not. but its what CHRISTIANS have stood for in the past, and even some today. so while christ's philosophy and teachings are great, christians have somehow managed time and again to completely pervert and skew them, and commit some of the most horrible atrocities in the name of god. while individual christians can be exempted from this blanket generalization, christianity as a whole cannot. why have people picked on christians? because by and large they've earned it. when you declare that you are the one and only true faith, that all other people go to hell, and set about trying to convert or kill "heathens," you can bet your ass that people will get a little testy with you. like i said, i really don't mean to be rude or attack anyone personally here - but it really irks me that christians by and large ignore their past. even AMERICA, land of the chained, one of the most ominous forces in the world today, admits some of the mistakes they've made in the past (slavery, for example) yet churches (particularly roman catholic) are too stubborn to admit an error until hundreds of years later in many cases.
lol well isn't that convenient... and you can find it everywhere that dogma is preached. "hey, don't listen to those people even if they sound like they might have a point because GOD says stay blind and listen to your parents/king/government and for the love of jesus don't think because god is in control" what about the christains picking on the pagans? that was some harsh shit and has been to this day. btw, there is no more 'proof' that christianity holds any truth than there is for every other 'pagan' religion or atheism in this world. they all have their 'miracles' and undeniable reasons to believe (and the agnostics enjoy the coincidental mystery). it spreads so fast and so well within a culture becuase it's based on fear and submission. most christians are born into it and surrounded by it at birth and all through their lives. it took me years of practice and constant reminding to get that brainwash out of my head. i agree with the theory (only because everything's just a theory) that christianity is just a tool for manipulating large masses of people. it's extremely annoying to encounter such followers on a daily basis.
Pope John Paul II apologized for any wrongdoings the Church did in the past before he died a few years ago. What more do you people want?
I'm fiery because I'm saved! I was heavely into occult , man, New ager to the max!!! I studied reincarnation, astral projection, cults, energy manipulation, even witchcraft inside out! But I got saved. I thought it was cool, logic, and would satisfy my desire for spiritual things,-wrong! I'm completely satisfyed by the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord! Thanks, btw. Seahorse!
That's the thing. Maybe Jesus didn't say that there was a God. And maybe he wasn't all powerful, and all knowing, and the messiah. The evangelists could've embellished the stories to create faith. They admit to embellishing the Acts Of The Apostles a bit with Peter & Paul. And you don't have to accept everything that somebody says. Some people accept some things in a religion, and reject others. We have freewill, we can do that. If everybody had to accept everything that say George W. Bush says, we'd all be a bunch of sheep just waiting to be attacked by wolves. I mean, take George Harrison for example. He still believed in a God or many Gods, and his music lyrically reflected that. But I don't have to completely accept George's belief, because he had a huge impact. He was a great songwriter who liked to express his beliefs, as was Jesus. He was a far out public speaker. He had a message that turned people on, but people can still disagree with certain beliefs. It's never all or nothing. If it was always all or nothing, we would not have bisexuals. You would either be gay or straight. But some people enjoy mostly women and some men, or others mostly men and some women. You can't, won't, shouldn't, or couldn't have all or nothing.
I swear you lot would have been put in straight jackets if it weren't for the label "Christianity". You're all mad, and I'd rather go to hell than have to listen to this shit there!
Are you mad? There is no hell. Everybody is made to be scared that they will go to infinite torture after death. Do you wanna know where we're going? 6 feet under the earth and we're lying there for eternity. That's it. And ya know what I'm fine with it, because I'll really be returning to Mother Earth that way.
Hey, that's not fair. I think that's a pretty good opinion. I'm fine with no heaven or hell, or afterlife at all. I feel fine with deteriorating 6 feet underground, or letting my charred remains float around somewhere or remain inside an urn. It's natural. And nature is the thing to worship and protect and everybody has to realize that. God is nature, and we're killing God by killing nature. And sooner or later nature is going to get us all. Look at the tsunami, all of the earthquakes, and the possible Super Volcano under Yellowstone Park. If we don't do something fast, we're all going to perish, by the thing we should have protected.
