Many people fucked off to Ireland and Spain. Spain has a number of thriving alternative communities where the heads integrated quite well with the locals, by all accounts. Most of what's left on the road in the UK today is the smacked up and brewed out dregs - the inner cities transported to the country. And they tend to not do very much actual travelling.
The Ireland scene too became fucked with heroin. Many are simply....dead. And the rest of us sold out and live in houses.
Well in 1984/5 I was only 17 and still made it as far as Westbury and Henge, but it was so long ago that I can't remember much of those days. It wasn't too long after that that I sold out and cleaned up my own act, that's when I lost touch with the scene. It's only been the last couple of years when I've gone full circle and my enthuisiasm for my old lifestyle has reawakened. This time with a more level head and not totally stoned like i was then.
I was 14 when the Beanfield happened. The old adage 'there's nowt as politicising as a truncheon ont back of the head' springs to mind. Next year is the 20th anniversary, will probably go to lay some old ghosts...... and some to rest! :H
Just found this on the bbc: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3662921.stm Sometimes you really can't fault the beeb for their reporting style
Here's an idea.............QUIT SQUATTING OTHER PEOPLE'S LAND!!!!!.....ya freeloading, fucking hippies.
I've read a few of your posts on this site ... sometimes I really can't understand why you are a member here. Anyway in answer to that. These landowners ... where did they get their land from and who gave it to them? Somwhere in history all land was stolen.
Nice one. Was just looking at that sight Paul and there's a link to this video report http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/june/1/newsid_2493000/2493267.stmwhich is the biggest crock of shit. Axes and saws described as 'weapons, forgot about all that nonsense.
The ITV news report that was compiled to go out at 10pm on the night of the beanfield was fucking top notch. The reporter was stood there saying shit like "I can't believe that what we're witnessing can be taking place in Britain. Surely questions have to be asked in parliament" and other such stuff. ITV bottled out and pulled the report at the last minute.
It's todays laws that apply. Who gives a flying fuck about 100 years ago! Go get a job and buy your own parcel of land. It's that straight forward. Squatting is a form of mooching and unacceptable to most. What's your beef with that?
I understand where you come from Mr Bug . But a lot of squats use space that would otherwise go derelict There is a group that convert old disused buildings into art galleries and work spaces Tis all good!!
That clip rang some bells. I remember my mum being disgusted with me for going off to the Westbury White Horse after seeing that on the news.
My beef is actually a quorn substitute. Anyway I digress. I do give a flying fuck about 100 and 1000 years ago, because it is the history of the downfall of the ordinary classes. For all too long the ruling classes have exploited the ordinary people and the ordinary people have believed the shit that has been fed to them. They stole the land and then sold it back to us, they gave us our laws and we sat there and let them. One day we might realise that there are more of us than there are of them and we can claim back what is already ours.
Shows how little you know then, huh? I work 9-5 for a living and don't sponge off anyone. But I fully support people who want to make use of derelict and empty properties to provide homes for those who can't afford them. Maybe if you bothered to try and understand the issues involved before posting offensive comments about the squatting scene in another country about which you patently know nothing, you'd get a friendlier response?
