you'd think a producer would know the difference between the two :2thumbsup:

Most "producers" call themselves "djs" Notice all the names of djs that have the word DJ in front of them.

I don't know where you got this from I can think of a ton of producers without the word DJ in their name. I would actually say it's the opposite, most producers do not put DJ in front of their name. A lot of people loathe the title, esp if they arent using turntables/cdjs/dj software to perform. most non-electronic musical performers don't have an overly descriptive name for themselves. Its no surprise the vast majority of electronic producers do not go by DJ and just pick a creative name like ESKMO, or Nosaj Thing, or An-Ten-Nae. Those folks who don't or never have DJ'ed wouldnt call themselves that even if they produce.

some producers have it front of their name because they actually DJ their music or others music in a set rathern than perform live. hence the moniker. Not all producers are DJ's and not all Dj's produce. A lot of people get it confused. Many times you tell them you produce they assume you're a dj. thats incorrect. the roles may be interchangable and people can be both, bot not everyone is doing that.

I love Brendan's Music. Fucking Amazing sonic landscapes and really crisp, clean mixes. Lots of original samples and sounds in his music gives him a sound that really stands out. You hear that snare and you know its an ESKMO track!!

Im gonna see him live when Alex Grey and Daniel Pinchbeck, and Rick Strassman come for this

    DJ Hype
    DJ Fresh
    DJ Zinc
    DJ Samurai
    DJ Krust
    DJ Hazard

Older producers generally have DJ in front of their name because that was the fashion especially with the drum and bass scene and that's the one I learned with. I'm aware they're different things but it's a new thing to not have DJ in front of your name. The veterans of electronic have DJ in front of their name and some change it to keep with the times but some do actually keep it. Even some MCs who DJ and produce keep MC in their names.

Make sure you have a bit of history and maybe you'll actually "have an idea where I got this from"

I can think of many from the same period who did not have dj in front of their name. Goldie, Fabio, Grooverider, LTJ buken. But seeing as its not 1997 I assume when someone puts dj in front of their name they dj.

I assume their a producer because that's what most of the people that I have spoken to mean when they say they DJ. So what's the problem? :sunny:

A trip to 97 replete with kandi kids, Phat pants and cuddle puddles? no thanks. I'll take hipsters, brostep, and bath salts. :mickey: lol

Let's say a club promoter books someone who claims that they DJ and as it turns out the promoter is like the vast majority of people and thinks it means hes a DISC JOCKEY who plays on CDJ's or turntables. Forward to opening night. It's the "dj's time to go on and the promoter misunderstood that when he said DJing it really means producing, what do you think is going to happen? The promoter is going to have an empty slot and a shitfest of a time filling it because he sent a producer to the decks on accident. Do you see the problem in that? I'm sure tinkering in your bedroom on fruity loops with 3 minute tracks and overused wobbles it doesn't pose a problem to call yourself a DJ but in real world situations some people might get confused and fuck up.
