yeah i won't argue with you there. if your going to do a psychedelic you should clear any thoughts from your mind regarding bad trips because it may indeed cause you to have some. it's very possible to turn a bad trip into a good one, but again, the higher the dose the harder it becomes to do so. i have had bad acid trips in the past where i wasn't able to do it. once i was lucky enough to have some rolls on me at the time so i popped 2 of them and saved myself some terror but once they wore off and i was still tripping i went back into the hole again. there have been other times when i've gotten myself out of them relatively easily. but i'll never agree that bad trips are uncommon or some type of bullshit that someone tries to drum into my head because it just isn't true. rather than lie to people and tell them they won't have a bad trip, lay down the facts that the possibility is there and explain to them what to do if the situation arises. in the event this were to happen, one would want to remain calm and clear all thoughts of the bad trip from their mind. no matter how much terror one may be experiencing, they have to tell themselves "i'm having the best time of my life!" and mean it. go to a quiet room or whatever you might have to do to get your idea of peace and try meditating or breathing heavily. put on some relaxing music. this is why its a good idea to have someone there who knows these things so they can guide you if needed. i know many of you know these things already but this was directed towards the OP. i wouldn't suggest eating anymore than an eighth. some are weak, some are strong. know your mushrooms. be your mushrooms. happy tripping =]
I'm no mathematician, but I can confidently say that your numbers don't add up. Have you actually found anyone who agrees with you on this 50/50 theory?
I think that there are many more people who turned out just fine than those 'who got fucked up and were never right again' just from tripping in the 60's. In fact, I'm not sure where I would look to find such psychedelic casualties. Homeless people? I've heard many homeless people blame the Vietnam War, heroin, gambling, cheating women, or just plain bad luck for their situations, but none of them have ever blamed acid or mushrooms.
All of you, wuttt4k, sjeerwackiness, and burnabowl, all of what u have said are right on, all of that makes good sense, I would say that there is a about a good 50/50 chance of a bad trip, who knows what could happen and how can control their own thoughts, and it is true that the more you trip, there is more chance of you having a bad trip, and also a good one, so just think positively. All this thinking of bad trips is either gonna make u have one or prevent u from having one. It all depends on if your the type of person who dwells on horror stories or who prevents themselves from having bad times because of them, so just keep a good thought in mind and have fun, cause, if u really dont want a bad trip, than the most you can do is think happily and not have one !!!!
first of all i did no math so i don't see how "my numbers don't add up" and yes i have found many people who agree with me. however not alot of them are on these forums. i could care less if people over the internet agree with what i have to say. well it doesn't matter what you think. you're 30 years old. the 60's were quite before your time, so you obviously don't have any first hand experience. as well as that i don't. i however have spoken to people from that generation, and i'm assuming you haven't because of the fact of what you think. thoughts are different from reality. go talk to numerous amounts of people who have had experience with psychedelics in the 60's. even if they don't themselves, they are bound to have known many people and i'm sure they'll have many stories to tell. some were lucky, some weren't. many people who went to woodstock ended up commiting suicide after returning home. the 60's generation with drug experimentation and culture ended badly. the message of it all was that drugs were bad. while you're at it, go watch some documentations of the generation. once you feed your head with some factful information rather than what you think, then feel free to return and i'll be happy to have a conversation with you on the topic.
A lot of those people were living crazy lifestyles, and I am sure that psychedelics didnt help keep, but if an average typical person, living a safe lifestyle tries mushrooms or lsd, i doubt that, that alone, can ruin their entire life... What I am saying is that you guys are probably both half right, there is an unpredictable chance of having a bad trip, but a lot of things have unpredictable chances of failure, you just have to make the best of it, and i have heard of some people who just say they have difficult trips, which is saying that they can handle it more than others, so its not all 50/50 - or maybe it is, but different people have different chances. So, in a way i do agree that they can be very dangerous, because some people cant handle it as well. But its also like saying that swimming can be very dangerous, because some people cant swim, so the chances of drowning for them are a lot higher. Although, since it is an unknown, I suppose it is somewhat like a 50 50 chance because you dont know if you can handle it or not... But all psychedelics do is show you everything that is already there, so maybe the people who have it turn out bad are the people who have something they didnt want to see or something. So, really, there is a 50/50 chance that there are things that your sunconcious can bring out that can mess you up, and for those hippies, Im sure the LSD just brought out other shit, like other drug abuse, mental problems, emotional stuff, who knows...
I have indeed had access to members of my parents' generation and spoken with many musicians, artists, business people, veterans, and have spent countless hours just chilling with these folks, some of whom are close friends and relatives. Few (if any) share your bleak view of the 60's as a time in which the 'drug experimentation and culture ended badly'. The 1960's saw many advancements in civil rights, music, space travel, and student protests movements that helped to shape the character of our nation and ultimately helped end the senseless war in Vietnam. Drugs, music, festivals, and a new openness to gender and racial equality, as well as a willingness to embrace eastern religions in addition to western values made this one of the most dynamic and important (and successful, in terms of experimentation with new ideas and substances) decades ever. ...swerving way off topic here, sorry to the OP or whoever. Anyway, there aren't really that many bad trips, just weird trips that are handled badly. Where is this 50/50 idea coming from (I dare ask) is this some sort of obsession with (and perversion of) the yin-yang concept?
