once i started having a bad trip and someone put this album on and after that it was the most intense trip, in a good way, of my life. flaming lips is one of my favorite psychadelic bands. I also like to listen to the dead, mars volta, pink floyd, and i've never tripped to mgmt while on drugs but i've tripped on mgmt while sober, so definitely gonna listen to them next time i trip.

 

I've actually listened to them before. They are awesome as well!

I'm gonna go way against the flow here but I prefer instrumental art music or choral music when I trip. I love Messiaen (particularly the Quartet for the End of Time, Chronochromie, and the Vingt Regards), Bartok's piano music, Chopin, and certain Bach pieces. Chorally, old church music really puts me in a cool place on most psychedelics. Gesauldo's Tenebre Responseries and Palestrina masses always open up to me in these vast, constantly-weaving nets of colored sound that is just enrapturing.

But that shit can feel entrapping too, so there's always the spacey jazz of early Weather Report, Shawn Lane and Jonas Hellborg various fascinating projects, and any of L. Shankar's unparalleled violin albums.

Those are my standards at least.

Electronic music is where it's at when tripping! Burial and Shpongle to be specific. That being said, the best acid come-ups I've ever had were to jazz tunes; some Miles Davis and McCoy Tyner, jazz is just full of awesome expression!

i never feel the need to listen to music when i'm tripping... anyone else think this too?
i always just have all this crazy music in my head and any other music hardly compares to it... so i just forget about other music and just listen to whatever my head is playing for me... this happens when i'm really high too.
