i have some that are worn out, literally with holes in embarassing places in them that are completely unwearable, but possibly repairable, if i ever remember to get around to doing so.
i also have some that no longer fit, but as my own size changes unpredictably over time, anything is possible.
almost everything else i have i wear, almost all the time. the only exception would be those which are serving as packing materials in boxes i'm not likely to have room to unpack for the forseeable future. so yes. socks with holes in them do get thrown away however.

tnp has not bought a new article of clothing in the past six months.
